I am a fan of Yami No Tainai. I like this comic.

First of all is the massive improvements over the course of the comic, from the simple sketchy first comics to the newer color comics. I marvel at it, also the consistancy of the updates. A manga that updates every day and is in color too? Wow. Just wow. The characters are likeable, the story is strong and the dialouge is anything but stiff. I must say, this comic moves awfully fast. Which all in all is good.

The downside, aside from the earlier sketchy-er comics, is the fact that this comic is a long read. Sure the comics are smaller than normal comic pages and the pages read fast, but still. 500+ pages, that's a lot. The good thing is the pages load fast, even on 56k. Another thing? You can't go missing updates, or you'll miss important things.

All in all, I like this comic. It's well done, and fun to read.

While this comic is incredibly stylish, with huge improvements and awesome coloring on the current version, I can't get into it. One reason for this is how the plot seems to stretch on and, while developing new twists and turns, never really gets anywhere. I read this comic for an entire year and I just got kind of lost. It could use a story summary to help new readers catch up.

Now I know this is going to sound sort of pissy and I know you guys must spend a huge amount of time on this comic, so you deserve any of the fans that you have, but I feel the need to point out some problems I have with this:

The begining is weak. The story lacks direction early on and the art is much too sketchy. Even with the promise of great looking comics in the current time, I don't want to have to go through all the hard-to-decipher sektchyness to get to the current storylines. Additionally, the 6 pannels which mosts pages in the begining conformed to were too constrictive. I can't deal with that, cause it's just not enjoyable. Plus when the early fight scenes occur it's hard to tell tthe characters apart sometimes. A significant lack of backgrounds also adds to the problem.

HOWEVER from this page to the current stuff, I'm completely blown away. The coloring is clean, the dialogue is good, and the action scenes are fluid.

But I have to ask, Are you a fan of Hellsing?

Anyway, the best thing I can recommend for you two to do is to post a story summary somewhere easily found on your site. That would help people like me and draw new readers into the new stuff.

Yes the coloring is indeed usually clean, dialogue is good, like ccs1989, I can't get into it either. It's good it just doesn't appeal to my taste, though. And it usually doesn't keep me interested.

I just read all the pages in the DD archive. Didn't take long because they are a quick read, often with half a dozen fight pages in a row (and lots of fillers!). But that's neither here nor there. But here is my review:

ARTWORK - I like it. It's usually pretty clean and stylized but when its not, its hard to figure out what's going on. That's always in a fight scene, though, and we know what's happening there. They're fighting. I did't go to the archive mentioned on the first DD page, so I don't know how well you've progressed but I did just read about 120 pages, so it's not like I'm not trying!

WRITING - My big, big thing is writing. It's what I think makes or breaks a comic. (I say this in every single review I do here.) In Yami, there's very little writing. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing because the artist seems to love the action/fight scene and I say, do what you love! Fans of action/fight scenes will flock to your comic and all will be good in the universe. But you won't attract readers who want a story to go along with those action scenes because, honestly, there is very little story here. I mean, I did read 120ish pages and barely know what's going on. And, as far as I can tell, there was absolutely no character development at all. Basic writing 101 tells us this: put your characters through ordeals and let them change as a result. Readers identify with and appreciate this simple writing device. Now, remember what I said earlier, if writing is not for you or you simply like the action comic, then by all means continue what you're doing. However, if you want more readers, you need some real story with real character growth. No ifs, ands or buts.

Overall, good artwork that stands out from most and an archive that proves you're devoted to your work. Best of luck!

One thing I also have a problem with in this is that there are very few establishing shots for the backgrounds. The characters do have establishing shots, but most of the time through page 400 I had a really hard time figuring out where this stuff was happening. I know I've pointed that out before on the pages when they were regularly updated on DD, but I always got the reply "We're doing a page every day, so stop complaining." That still doesn't help me know where this is going on though.

Okay. Here's my review for Yami No Tainai.

I have to admit that I haven't read the whole storyline as of yet. There's quite a bit, (over 580 pages). So I read the beginning of the story at YNT's main site. And jumped to the more recent pages. I'll read the whole story over time.

Anyway, here's what I thought of what I've seen so far.

ARTWORK - At the beginning, as with most online comics, was a little bland. But the artwork VASTLY improves over time, especially in the recent pages. The artist really excels at drawing action and fighting scenes. And that will only draw a litany of HUZZAHS from me. The detail in the characters is amazing. The only problem I have with the art is something pointed out by others here. The lack of background shots.

STORY - There isn't much dialogue in many parts of the story. Which, for an action comic is fine. Many people don't like it when an action scene has too much talking in it. But even in some of the non-action scenes there's very little dialogue. It kind of makes it tough to follow and figure out what's going on. Especially if the reader doesn't go to the main site to read from the beginning.

I really like the comic. The artwork keeps you coming back. When I've finished reading the whole archives, I'll give a rating to YNT.
