Yay one I have been following for a while! WOOTS!

This is without a doubt one of the most unique comic's I have seen on here.

Story: Very deep, a tad convoluted, but fits perfectly with the world that has been created. The idea of a man turned demon put into slavery for loving a "Forktail" is interesting in and of itself. What makes it stand out is that he is driven mad by the experience and cannot hide his contract or his tie to his master - his contract is burned into his very skin. He is a consumate killer and on a mission the writer keeps secret until the very end of the chapter...I will not give it away, you'll just have to read it for yourself!

Art: The art is gritty and sketchy, and again fits well with the mood of the work. The demons are as they should be shifty, ugly beings - goatlike - and it makes the contrast with the human appearance of the anti hero, and his boss that much more prominent. The dark and contrasting color works very well for the storytelling and the action is well drawn and paced.

My only qualm with the art is the font in most of the narration. While the calligraphy goes well artwise with the piece it makes it very hard to read what is being relayed. I think a different font should be considered for long peices of narration, perhaps a Caligraphy font for letters starting the sentences but a simpler font for the rest. This would enhance the reading. because what is being said is important to the story and it loses impact for the difficulty reading.

Overall if you want a very surreal trip through a different kind of hell "The Revenger Tragedy" is the place you want to be! Great read, interesting story, and intriguing artwork.

Well done!

All categories are rated on a positive number if I liked it. The more, the better. Negative points means I didn't like something. Some categories are made up on the spot. But ending up with a positive number is a good thing!Aret

Art (+1): One thing Barguest has is a style for texturing and effects (+1), the gore and atmostphere are done well and relate a felling of being in hell or something hellish...or just plain horrific. When doing silhouette work, again Barguest doesn't fail. However, when it comes to drawing people, creatures and the interaction between characters the art becomes flat and distorted. It may be called style, but its not. Style is when you can draw anything with decent accuracy and make it look good - and then you settle on skills, you can go for stylized artwork. As an example, Andy Warhol liked to do a lot of abstract art; it was his style. However, he could still draw and illustrated better than almost any artist out there. He chose his style in sometimes abstract designs. This doesn't mean there is room for improvement, but Barguest should practice drawing human figures or improve on rendering images and then go back to a style he can ease into. (-1) ...oh! I like the writing on Rook. It's neat. (+1)

Story: (+1) I've seen this story before. Not the same events, but things burrowed from H.P. Lovecraft, Dante, and other hellish romps through hell. So far the plot is straightforward, not everything is utterly explained but it works as it is. No skipping, no wierd references (like I used to do lol). (+1) So what it will come down to, is characters and how they act.

Characters:(-1) Rook, though a man trapped in hell, enslaved to a usurper of hell called Barguess seems a little overbaked. Through the chapters, he is little more than an invincible 2 dimensioal protagonist being prodded along. So far he seems bored by the challenges set before him in the infernal lands. He was stated that he was afraid to die, but I dont see it. Instead he merrily announces he will be chopping the next demon and half and express his creditials to them as he does it. I think a deeper examination of the characters are needed and perhaps some actual challenge. It's great to have a hero who can win, but when you know he keeps winning easily all the time he will get old fast (-1)

Hellishness: Though effects of blood, bashing and fire are nice. Since we're in hell, a bit more of its doomed halls should be added. We have seen very little scenery, no long distance shots of the impressiveness (overbearingness of horror from it). The only hell we get to see is from little bits and pieces here and there - but no wide panning shots to show us where we truely are in the this epic! No points either way.

Total: +1 (Its ok, it works. Not great - but could be molded into something better with work)
Industrial
A very seriously unserious super hero comic that can be pretty serious when it wants to be. Really!
I Speak Louder Than Words
My dream journal. Probably wont float everyone's boat since its kind of esoteric and peculiar rather than a linear story about characters.

SUPER SHORT REVIEW POWERS ACTIVATE!!

Art, not bad, needs work on figure, and the murky atmosphere was not bad to see, but I think there is room for improvement.

I spotted this comic a while ago and loved the art. Art really looks influenced from Hellsing manga. There was a character in Hellsing too that has writing all over their body.
The effects are amazing to look at. The action scenes have some of the best art. Real anatomy isn't a big deal. If there was a way to make the figures more creepy through abstracting the anatomy go for it.

Story: I see the writing as more of a trip than having a real in depth story. The wandering fighting scenes were the most enjoyable parts to me. The long paragraphs in the beginning did not help at all. I say the comic needs more pictures less paragraphs.

ART
In the beginning, I loved it. Influenced by Hellsing, yes, but still original enough to interest me.
But then... What's with all these text pages? They look good, yes, but you know... I wouldn't want to read them ever again.
- You have a small novel inside your first few pages there -_-;

+ The fighting scenes look pretty neat, especially the "action lines".
+ You have talent with effects, texture and colour.
+ Nice demon design!

Overall the style looks good; though combined to better knowledge of anatomy it would look fantastic! So focus a bit on that :D
For example it might look creepyer to have spider like fingers, than just a blob in the end of an arm. Same goes with the faces - a sharp, accurate nose is way more scaryer than one shaped like a potato.

STORY

Well, I already mentioned the long narratives... They kinda distanced me from the story. To tell the truth, I wasn't interested at all. As I read onwards, I neither liked or disliked it. I just continued 'cause of the art. That's why I can't really comment on that subject.

+ The fonts suited the story well though.

OVERALL
It's a good-looking comic for friends of Hellsing and other similar gory, creepy comics.
I believe the next piece from this artist will be even better :)

Thumbs up!

Sorry, I have to be a minority here.

I like the coloring, for the most part. Conservative, but does it job.

The art... uh... I didn't like it. There was little to no obvious knowledge regarding anatomy or the structure of objects. It feels very early highschool-ish. The artist needs to study anatomy and how objects exist in 3D space. The storytelling is extremely one dimensionable. The POV hardly ever moves, & very often I had not the foggiest idea what was going on.

Story. Man, but it moves sssllllllooooowwwwwwww. Holy crap, but it was hard to follow & nothing happened, given the number of pages completed.

The type is very often extremely hard to read, & in every case looks horrible with the art. The type is too bold & completely overwhwelms the art.

I SERIOUSLY struggled to finish reading this.

2 out of 10, maybe.

Sorry,

Wow I LOVED this comic. I even fav'd it XD

The literary allusions really hit it for me since I studied literature in school and being able to recognize and see them used in stuff like this really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside ^-^ It also makes me feel like this story is going to have a very mature (as opposed to simple) storyline and someone who is not well-read would probably miss the points and hints the author is trying to make with the quotes.

I enjoyed the language... it has a very old-fashioned and formal feel to it that really helps to set the tone of both the story plot and setting everyone is in. The beginning with all the background exposition is a little much... it is too wordy and the author probably could have done better in spreading out the information over several pages though this is but a minor irk. The font all fits in well and never seems out of place.

The toning, colouring, texturing etc. is all simply fantastic! Everything seems to fit in and help with the mood and nothing seems to excessive or 'pasted on' and this is most certaintly one of the strongest points of the comic.

Now, the lineart... I'm not fond of the lineart. Sometimes a page will look really good, but then it will go back to being not-so-great. Page 23 of chapter 2 has some really decent lineart but then the next page it goes back to lackluster proportions and 'not-quite-right' poses (a suggestion I make to the author is to draw from photographs, maybe get a friend to model, and looking at yourself doing the same poses in the mirror. This really helps with the fore-shortening too)

All in all this appeared to be a very well thought out and planned story and it displays the tone and atmosphere really well. The author utilizes all of their tools from colour to texturing to font style and language in order to emphasize the setting and tone of the comic.
