This website is a little confusing for this one. Click "nw chronicals" on the top bar to reach the comic archives.

Short Review:

Art: Fairly Good in both full issues. Gets slightly better in the second issue because of the addition of color and the fact that you're now coloring in a way that doesn't make the JPEGs look kinda blurry. Some of the flow is kind of messed up though. It doesn't grab me. I don't know exactly what's going on that causes the flow to be messed up. Maybe it's that the style isn't really all that visually interesting. It works though.

Story: First issue has NO dialogue in it, aside from two text bubbles with horrible typed in stuff which is incredibly hard to discern. Second issue has a plot. It's not fantastic, and we don't learn too much about this character, but it's there.

Overall: Kinda apathetic to this comic. It's art is fairly good, at least better than a lot of online comics, but it just seems devoid of interesting plot. It doesn't pull the reader in.

I disagree with the art. For the most part the characters seem to be in proportion and they move properly. However, I find the greys in to be flat and nothing pops. The overall style of the comic is Rin Tin Tin meets Sin City meets any Steven Segal movie. I agree that there is no plot and thats not good for the first issue. Theres nothing wrong with no dialogue, its not needed in this issue. I do think that strictly action stories are ok. An issue of just fighting is fun to do but there is a correct time to do it.

Art needs work with the values. The type in the second issue make me not want read it. It's to congested and needs breathing room. Smaller type (just a bit). The composition of panels (not type) looks good and visual story telling is clear.

I appologize if this comes off rude but I would do a diservice to the creator if I was not honest. As we artists complete more work, we tend to get better (as seen between issue 1 and 2 of Night Warrior). I look forward to seeing the change in this comic. It has a very nice Manga style.

Thanks to the confusing website, I'm not sure if i started out in the right place. I read the arc named "The Deadly Jade", so i guess i'll review that one.

Art

Artwork was nicely done. However the male faces were a bit too angular for my taste, they were still nice. The action scenes are drawn very well also. I found it easy to recognize small, as well as, big figures alike. Detail is also a point the artist seems to take pride in. Every panel seemed to make the absolute most of the space that was available.

Story

For this arc, i couldn't help but think that i was watching batman begins; simply without the costume. It has all the factors: Disaster at the start, dojos, and vigilantism. However, since this was the only arc i read, i won't hold it against him/her.

Layout

Aside from the first page or two, the layout was very well done. It was easy to follow the flow and transition through the pages.

Overall (9/10)

Night Warrior: Hope

Positives:

The blacks set a dark mood perfectly. The dull colors help keep the dirty, dark feel of the comic consistent. The pacing is good and I find I want to see what happens on the next page. The comic is nicely fluid. Except for the last page 35, nothing comes off stiff. Even in page 35's defense, the big money shot at the end of the story.

Negatives:

When the heavy blacks aren't used the page fails to capture my attention. The line work is the comic's weakest point in my opinion. If some weight was added to them, the characters would pop out more. When backgrounds are used, the artist puts in as much effort with that as the characters. I'd like to see more of that. Some anatomy needs to be nailed down, yet the comic is consistent that it works with what it presents.

Overall:

A great generic feel of a 90s action film that could be using Stallone, Seagal, Van Damne, or Willis. There are several stories done by different artists and writers but I wanted to concentrate on just the latest. The reader can immediately feel for the title character and enjoy watching him beat up anyone in his way. The story does what it sets out to do, entertain.
