A review of Mad World 9?! But I haven't read the other 8!

:P

Anyway, Madworld is one of those comics that is balanced between wackiness and 'slit-the-wrist' depressing-ness. A lot of the jokes are funny in a 'what the hell was THAT?' sort of way. One thing I think this guy does well is that I can tell the characters apart. I mean, they're modified stick figures! But I can still tell them apart! How cool is THAT?!

It's a very stylistic comic for a stick-figure comic. It's the kind of thing you might see printed up in a little book and sold at Hot Topic. (Although I hate Hot Topic).

The comic has improved from the start. A professional looking font is used, there are shadows, and everything falls into place in the style.

I mean, this comic is never going to reach more than a cult fanbase, but for what it is it's pretty good. Funny too.

One of my favorite pages is this one.

Okay, disclaimer: I am a big fan of Mad World. I have http://madworld.comicgenesis.com/ bookmarked and check it every few days. But because Michael hasn't updated in a month I'm just about to give up on checking for updates... so when will we see a new strip?!?

Okay, on to the review:

ARTWORK - excellent. stylized perfectly (for example, the half moon in many of the strips). he gets a hellva lotta expression and emotion out of stick figures. and it works perfectly with b&w, in my opinion. i sound like a fanboy but there's nothing i would change.

WRITING - i'm such a strict sob about writing and yet, like the artwork, there's nothing here i would change. i love the quirkiness, the intelligence and oddly thoughtful sense of social commentary (see the last strip, for example but also #100 & 101).

well, hell, i didn't have any critical to say except where the crap are the new strips? man, i need me some Mad World!

I really like this comic, the art is simple but stylish, and the writing is intelligent yet random. Back to the art, it's really awesome! And I like the stiches in the half moon. I particulary like the strips where they work out stuff
really random, like Jesus is black. The strips started out really long, now they're quite short. I actually don't have any other improvements you could make. Great comic, keep it up.

Oh man, Mad World? AWESOME! I used to read this comic and love it, until it stopped updating. Sneaky creator's just been moving it around. As far as I'm concerned there isn't a thing wrong with this comic. It's consistently funny, with great art and use of space and color. It was one of my favorites, and once again is!

Initial Reaction Upon Clicking Link: "OH MY GOD, STICK FIGURES AAAAAH!"

Then I looked again and decided, "....... xD This ought to be good."

Hence I began reading and this is what I have found:

The jokes for this comic have had me laughing out loud. Some of the greatest jokes in this comic just snagged me so fast and so hard that I couldn't help but laugh. xD My favorite jokes were the earliest ones... The tree that flipped out because "there was a cat in its hair," and the joke where Squee was playing in a Mina-Puddle after the rain stopped. xxxDDD I swear, if I'd been drinking any liquids, I would have spat all over my computer screen... And I genuinely cannot say that about many bits of humor I've seen other places. @__@ !!

I loved reading through this comic, and I hate it when I come across a comic that just works SO WELL but the art is so simple... and so quick.... and sometimes it looks so effortless that I find myself soon driven to madness because I enjoy it so much. xxDD *AUGE* The triangle faced, square faced and circle faced people... Just so cute and comical and yet so generic that you just have to wonder, "Damn... why didn't I think of that? Dx " because it's so brilliantly simple...!

But to pick at this comic a bit, I must say that in the beginning, and for a long time, the text was so small that I could not read it very well without straining my eyes... Later on, the text was bigger and easier to read so I hope that remains constant. @_@;

Also, after a while, some of the jokes became just a bit repetative. There are so many samples of "hate" jokes and destruction of peace jokes that it got a bit tedious to read. Perhaps not so much less of these but more variatey in between the jokes. Space some hate jokes a little bit farther apart so that they keep a fresh flavor every time, ya? @__@ Don't know how easy that would be or not, but there's my word on it.

I'm sad to see it on hiatus, because it is enjoyable to read. I really loved the earlier stuff the most though, because the jokes were on an innocent but such a rediculous level that I couldn't help myself to laughing.

Ah, a comic after my own heart.

http://www.drunkduck.com/Mad_World/index.php?p=20500

A whole page dedicated to how crazy God is. That made my night!

Anyway, I haven't gone through the entire archive, but I like what I've seen so far. The writing and style and stick figures remind me of Mr. Vasquez's "Happy Noodle Boy," except less insane. Which is a good thing, I suppose. Well it's not as random as Happy Noodle Boy. Some of the comics in Mad World aren't very funny, while others are hilarious, so it all evens out in the end.

Overall: YAY. It's fun. I'd definitely check for updates.
