Would you invite this comic over for tea? And if so, would you use the good china?

I would, but I have no good china, and no good tea.
Jade Revolver by jasonspringer.
Now the comic drags you in the first pages. The author is skilled at Photoshop, the usage the speech ballons. Very well done. The comic is sharp, brightly colored, which at times, for being a serious comic does not work. I mean a bright color like orange in a serious scene? Maybe use a different darker shade of that color. The color in some places is brilliant, some other places lacking, the begining stuff for once is great, the later not. The way you mix photos with your drawings, It works (Sometimes not, for example page 17). The man can color though, I was amazed by the comic I drew that he colored. Amazing stuff.
The story, as for the comic is very young is interesting, along with the art which at time is trying to find itself, a mix between American and Manga. The begining is very American type, making itself into manga at a later time, it works. Something one should never do in a story, unless it's a cute shojo-type story is chibi's. I mean man, did that catch me off track. I didn't like that. But it seems you learned your lecon.
The writitng is great, not the best. Just great, the characters get along well, you feel something for the main character. Martha Stweart jokes, and pointing out cliches in action movies. Great.
Overall, I like this comic. I think it has potential.
myxomatosis's final score: b+

Yeah i agree with myxomatosis that the chibi style didnt really work for that page, it kind of put me off the whole page.
The rest of the comic however i loved, the art was brilliant and so was the colours and shading. Sometimes if too much colour is used then the pages tend to get a bit confusing but that doesn't seem to happen here.
the full page shots are visulally stunning especially the last page
the plot i thought was well planned so far and the character interaction is believable
Keep it up and there will be the makings of a very good fantasy comic here

By the looks of it, I might invite this comic over for tea, and as for the good China...I might include that. Though I'm afraid none of my china is made out of jade. Not even sure if I have china. I'd have to borrow it.
I don't get why there isn't correct grammer on the opening pages. Places were periods should be don't have them there. Oh well. Reading on.
Everything is literally PACKED. Lots of stuff to look at here. Looks very cool and finished. Still, there's not a big enough establishing shot of the whole area. An overhead view of the burning house and the area around it would have helped in those first few pages.
Chibi. Akward.
The last panel on this page reminds me of some kind of cheap cartoon. A photo background with an orange-yellow gradient. It looks fake and cheap where a normal drawn background would have looked much better. You draw some really great details on other pages, so using stuff like this here was unnecessary and undermined your work. Actually, though, on the following page the photo background worked better. I suppose it's how you use it. Still, I reject the idea of using photo backgrounds. It looks more integrated to draw it. And if you want your characters to stand out, maybe blurring the background a little? No one said you couldn't draw the background on a seperate layer from the characters, but just make it drawn. It looks more integrated.
On this page you use the wrong 'your'. It should be you're.
For all my bitching, this comic is very good. Interesting colors, I KNOW where the characters are, they stand out, the character's positions usually don't look akward, and all in all it's a cool art style. A nice fusion of American and Manga style.

I must say that I would not use my fine china for this comic and not any tea either. With this comic I would drink beer and read Judge Dredd together with. I did get some Judge Dredd vibes when I read this comic. Ultraviolence, tough guy, monsters and psychic chicks. It is all there. Except Judge Dredd has no chibis. Loose the chibis. Better yet - blow them up or arrest them.
I am impressed by the amount of work that has gone into the color, but the bright colors were a bit to much. Also I do not like manipulated photo backgrounds - but they worked I guess.
The comic did catch my interest and the balance between word and pictures was good. The characters were fitting to the story and to each other.
I do think it needs more graphical violence and gore. It goes well with the beer.

How could I have missed this when it was the current review thread?
Anyway, this is a comic that I've been enjoying for awhile now, although the story is still only really in it's early days. Same with the art, in many ways - it's some very good stuff, with some interesting colours and composition, but at the same time you can see the progression of it as you grow in confidence and skill. I like to see a comic that isn't afraid to experiment and grow, even if sometimes those experiments don't pay off as well as you might have hoped (the chibi, the photo backgrounds).
Terroquita makes a good point about the colouring as well - although sprinkled with humour, this is a comic that would probably benifit from the use of a darker pallete - there's some very bright, trippy colours used... and not just in the trippy mind-reading section :D
Overall, though, this is a finely done webcomic that does a good job of grabbing and holding the readers attention *thumbs up*

Given the recents reviews of my comic here at Drunl Duck. I've come to the conclusion that I should hold off on Jade Revolver until I have a set style and learn some more tricks. This is only a momentary break and I will return!
