You realize that Mumra was one of the few "natives" to the planet on that show? The Thundercats and Mutants were just these jerk off aliens that showed up to fight on his home turf.

That's true, but I remember there were actually quite a few natives... scattered here and there. They were always the poor old extras, villians, victims.

I liked the amazon women who lived in the trees near Cat's Lair. Then there was woman who was part of the intersteller police who showed up every once and a while. I think she was called Kodana the Hunter or something like that.

Aside from the Amazons, there were a few natives like the walrus people, the Brutemen(who only showed up in the first few episodes), plus one other group of guys who were an offshoot of Hobbits, which is convenient since the same guys who animated Thundercats did the original The Hobbit and The Return Of The King movies. There was also Mum-rana, the good female counterpart to Mumm-ra.

Mumm-ra was a really evil bad guy, at least for the first season until they gave him his own pet pooch. You'd think the everliving lord of evil would have a giant 3-headed monster dog instead of a mutant pitbull. But comparing Mumm-ra to other 80s cartoon villains is a no brainer. He was way more evil and cleverer than Skeletor or Cobra Commander who always followed cliche' cartoon plots to take over the world.

Skeletor was the cheesiest though. "You think you're sweaty nipples threaten my sexuality, He-Man? You big boob!" I swear to God he called somebody a "boob" like every other episode, and for an 8-year old kid hearing a cartoon supervillain say "boob" is the funniest damn thing in the world!

Megatron though towers over all of them as the baddest mutha of badguys. Especially in the movie. Once they didn't have to worry about the standards & practices of daytime TV, Megatron was blowin' away every motherfreakin' Autobot in sight. Notice how he was the only Decepticon that actually managed to kill any of the Autobots during the battle on Autobot City?

I always thought about what a Go-bots vs. Transformers show would have been like

Transformers would kick the Go-Bots collective asses.

But let's not forget that Star Scream killed Megatron in the movie by like shooting him in the head when he was begging for his life. Of course as Galvitron he came back and kicked royal ass, but still, props go to Star Scream for being completely Machiavellian.

But how horrible was it to watch all of the toys you played with get killed? Playing with them after the movie just wasn't the same...

Actually, Megatron was still alive at that point. "Wait! I still function!" But he was so weak from his fight from Optimus. Starscream didn't really do anything except push him out a window.

Plus, out of all the 80s heros, Prime was the only real "leader". Lion-O was Lord Of The Thundercats(all 5 of them!), and he took every given minute to tell you that. He-Man was just some hero guy with furry panties. Duke was so uncool that they had to outrank him with the even more whitebread Gen. Hawk. And whoever that guy from Voltron, or Mask, or Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors are.

Prime was a leader. He showed up, kicked ass, saved the humans, and made the Decepticons do the obiligatory retreat. Then he dies so the dude from Breakfast Club can take his place for one season.

Pink Panther was in the 60s & 70s. The only 80s version was that crappy Muppet Babies ripoff with the Pink Panther's two illegitimate sons and their "Rainbow Panthers" friends. Even Jesse Jackson wouldn't wanna see that one!

I have to say, I was a diehard Transformers fan but my most favorite cartoon of the eighties, has to be one that never even aired here in the US. For those of you who come from Italy, or are European, you may know about Daltanious. Daltanious was named after the famous Dartanian of the four musketeers. Keeping with that theme, Toe productions came up with a concept similar to Voltron, which was another one of my favorites, and created Daltanious, Il Robot del futura. It aired also in Japan in the late seventies, and was then translated into Italian by the early eighties. The series is now on DVD and I have the entire collection. It's Voltron with more pizzaz.

Oops. Anyway, that was one of them, parden the double post... Another favorite of mine is definitely Voltron, with the lions. Great show back in the day.

I heard that Media Blasters is planning on releasing both Voltron series on DVD starting this fall, plus possibly the Voltron TV special where both teams met up together. There's also talk about them getting the original Japanese versions of both series too.

The original Japanese might not be so bad. Watching the English version again isn't really worth it. You can tell where they blatantly edited out the deaths of characters and some of the voices are really unbearable. It really isn't a show I would recommend people rewatch for the nostalgia trip.

There were a number of episodes in the later part of the series that were actually animated specifically for American TV, including the Fleet Of Doom special.

Okay, here's another tid bit for Voltron fans. Apparently, Voltron was to have another mech in the series with him, my favorite mech, Daltanious, was supposed to premiere with Voltron at the time, but it never did happen. Instead, Daltanious got his own show and Voltron had an entirely different show of his own. I read this online somewhere. But alas, I'm not sure if anyone has really ever heard of my favorite show. Only aired in Italy. Ahh well, that's one of my favorites.

There was another anime that they were considering to be "Voltron 3", and even went as far as to releasing robot toys of it along with the rest of the Voltron merchandise. But lack of interest caused the third series to be abandoned.

Interesting... Voltron went quite a long way before being discontinued on Cartoon network. I guess another great show of the eighties that I remember, was also the sequal to Kimba the white lion, known as Leo the Lion. It picked up where Kimba left off, going into his adult hood. Wasn't considered as spectacular as the original but none the less, it was one of my other favorites. Anything by the old master, Tezuka is actually quite good.

Alright, I neeeeeds to ask this, because I ca'nt have been the only 5 year old to have seen this movie... thing... maybe it was the early 90's and not the '80s, but I'm thinking it was the 80's.
It's about the fairy, who grants your wishes when you wish upon a star. And she gets swamped and makes helper fairies. One of the help fairies brings the girl she's supposed to help to the fairy world. Some shit happens, and the queen fairy eventually sends her back home.

...One of the girls who gets her wish granted wanted to fly and had aviator goggles on like 24/7. And the fairy let her fly, and she spread her arms out like an ariplane and flew.

Anyone? Anyone AT ALL? Any clue?!

The only 80s cartoon I remember that had any fairies was Kid Video. I don't remember the total plot other than it was about a teenage band in some magic world, and they had a fairy in a aerobics getup as their guide.

None of the 80's cartoon appeal to me. When I was a kid, I was completely unentertained by all the 80's cartoon. Everytime I watched a cartoon, I always feel that I could have come up with a better and far more interesting storyline than what is shown on TV. My childhood time during the 80's was miserably boring.

Maybe my taste for quality entertainment is very high.

Really, I liked the Thundercats, Voltron, and the Ralph Bashki (Probably spellled wrong) version of Mighty Mouse.

But the rest of the animated stuff in the 80's really blew. (Example: Care Bears, The Gary Coleman Show, Casper and the Space Angels :roll: ).

I still like Danger Mouse. I was never able to get into Duckula, even as a kid. Maybe I'm just a sucker for British humor, though. Plus Danger Mouse is still entertaining even after you grow up and go back to it.

It was a great little episodic cartoon, a good mix of action and comedy. :-D
I liked Duckula too... But it had a much slower pace and less flare. Not quite as snappy and full-on as DM.
And I just realised, the voice of DM must have been done by David Jason! In fact he must have done a few of the voices... He would have done Duckula too. Cripes that guy gets around!

Yeah, it was the famous David Jason!!!!!!! From 'A touch of Frost', Dell Boy in 'Only Fools and Horses', and 'Grenville in Open All Hours', oh and Pa Larkin in 'The darling Buds of May', and a zillion other things... He's an institution.
