Solomon Japriscot is a slightly overweight Suburbanite-turned-Detroiter who happens to be down on his luck. Laid off by the local autoparts factory as the direct result of a buyout and economic slump, he moves in with a friend and tries to get another job. He lacks a degree, however, and soon wonders how he's going to pay his half of the rent. His friend, a student getting by on compiling stafford loans, gives him a deadline of getting a job within a month or face living on the street...
