Okay first off this is NOT a bitch thread about comics you don't like. This about comics that have pulled a 180 from something terrible into something great.

I really see this a lot. The comic started off as awful generic crap but the author stuck with it and everything evolves until it is an exciting and compelling comic.

What series do you feel have do this & tell us a bit about them and their 180.

Wow. I thought I'd be able to answer this really easy but ...

I guess the first time I read an issue of The Invisibles I thought it was pretty bad. But a few years later I read a TPB, with a whole arc and I finally saw how good it was.

Ooooh wait, here's one!

Danger Girl. I thought it was going to be complete garbage. But it turned out to be a really light hearted, cheese cake filled, James Bond spoof. Really surprised me how that went.

Going back to Vertigo, I was never a big Sam Kieth fan so I didn't like Sandman much until he left the book and then I finally saw the storytelling for what it was. And it was a good read.

Ah, here's a freakin classic ... Stormwatch. It was really a below average comic. Until Warren Ellis came along.

Oooh, and that reminds me of ...

The New Warriors. I wasn't that big a fan of it at first. It was an ok book. But, meh. Until Darrick Robertson got on the book. And then I started to really notice how well written the characters were. And I became a Robertson fan. And since I'd already met Rodney Ramos back when I interned at Valiant Comics ...

Ellis ... Robertson ... Ramos ... TRANSMET! Yay!

Spawn. I started reading Spawn because it was Todd McFarlane. Then he quit, but that was okay, because Capullo was better than him anyway. But by then, the story had taken the fast train to sucksville, so I was only reading it for the art. Then Capullo quit and I didn't like the guy who followed him, but I collected the toys, so I kept buying it anyway. Then I stopped collecting the toys and just bought it out of habit and because I had a complete run. But it sucked really bad at that point and I could barely motivate myself to read it anymore. When they announced the armageddon storyline and the continuity reset, I thought this would be the point where I could finally kick the habit.

But lo and behold, ever since then, it's been one of the asskickingest titles on my pull list. Genuinely creepy horror stuff, good writing, killer art. God knows how they did it, but I actually ENJOY Spawn again, which I didn't for almost as long as I can remember.

Other than that, I don't have a lot of stories because once I've decided I don't like something, I almost never give it a second chance. My pull list is too long as it is.

Berserk. For the first 3 volumes Berserk was pretty awful. Especially the first 2. It was just Guts going around slashing things and looking angry and maybe a little emo. But then volume 4 delves into Gut's past, and that keeps things moving up until around volume 9 where things get crazy and then in volume 12 and 13 there's a total "HOLY CRAP" scene. Every volume after 13 is pure gold.

It's far easier to think of comics that are the other way around...

Claymore was a little meh in the beginning. On the generic side, but it got better as the characters were developed.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn was kinda dumb in the beginning, when the story started getting more serious I started liking it more.

Gotta say it's really hard to get into a comic when it's not that interesting in the beginning.
