In no particular order:
The Faction
Misfit Assassins
Wolf
Due East
What got me hooked? Mostly characters, I think. I was drawn in right away. The dialogue and facial expressions make the people real for me, and I want to see what happens to them. They have good stories and update regularly. On each page I find myself wanting/needing to see what happens next.
The Faction and Wolf are pretty intense most of the time, tense and exciting. Misfit Assassins is just really fun, feels so professionally manga, and there's a lot of humor in it and some insanely cute stuff. It just feels good to read. Due East is more relationship/deep/moving stuff. (I usually am not into the real life, personal relationship type stories, but the characters drew me in.)

Ozy and Millie
vgcats
Edgar Allan Poo
Perry Bible Fellowship
Uh... it's hard to think of more.
The reason most of these got me hooked is because of the interesting characters and story lines.
Some, like pbf, through humor, since those have no real storyline.

In no particular order:
Purgatory Tower - Art, characters, story. `Nuff said.
The Superfogeys - Cute/funny, great characters and I love superhero parodies!
Wolf - Great characters, cool art, gripping tension
Star Crossed Destiny - Let's talk about writing from the edge with equally intense art, colors, you name it.
Craving Control - I know, I know, it's goofy and downright weird at times, has infinite breaks between strips and has perhaps the longest running flame war for any one DD comic that I've ever seen...but I still like the art and wonder what's going to happen to the characters. So I keep coming back. (*shrugs*)
The Devon Legacy Prologue - Amazing art technique, funny dialogue, excellent pace and memorable characters.
And I'm quickly getting addicted to Used Books for story and characters and watching the art develop over time.
I have 38 comics favorited but these are the ones I'm "addicted" to, which is subject to change over time.

Before last week, I've honestly never finished a single web comic. I own hundreds of print comics and graphic novels, but I never really felt "right" when reading something on my computer screen... that is, until I found:
Gunnerkrigg_Court . I guess it caters to my fascination of little girls in dark/surreal locations* but the writing, pacing, and tone just completely draw me in and I love the style. It's a shame I didn't find out about this sooner. I also like black and white comics with uneven lines, heavy ink, and good use of spotting black as well as obscure/surreal/abstract comics and anything that uses simple character designs amidst a realistic story or atmosphere.
So, uh, if you guys know of any "lol weird" comics then please point them out for me.
*It's nothing sexual (I'm not a pedo) but I have a fascination with children involved in relatively adult situations. It's just one of my favorite juxtapositions and this will INSTANTLY cause me to like your comic :D

This might stray a bit from the exact topic, but it's definitely in the spirit of the topic ...
I came across THIS in a search through a bookcase of mine the other day:
And memories started flooding me. I totally took it out and paged through it. This book I've had since I was 4. And this book is really what prompted me to get into super heroes and comic books. I even remember the images that set it off for me ... the one with the Flash running through a brick wall for the entry for the word "boots." I never fully realized how much of my comic tastes and my own comic style comes from that dictionary. See, I was never one of those guys who chose between Marvel or DC as a kid. I liked them both. So when my little kid friends were all into exclusive marvel stuff, I was still really interested in a lot of DC stuff as well. Because of that darn dictionary. The Flash, the Atom, the JLA, Superboy, Supergirl ... it all started with that book for me. And I even noticed that the book got me into drawing as there's quite a lot of scribbling attempts to draw super heroes on the inside back cover. My earliest batman pic. LoL!
So yeah, that book just recently brought back a huge wave of nostalgia for me.

That comic got me hooked. Its boring at first and the "read right to left" is a bit annoying...
But great story. Highly reccomended.
This is one comic that got into my head and made me wanna keep goin back at it. It almost brainwashed me... but thanks to my education it didnt. haha. lol!

While there are a few professional cartoons that I really enjoyed I read almost none of those nowadays. It's funny, but I really prefer the non-professional web-toon stuff. I still haven't figured out why though. Anyway, here's an url for the Ugly Hill cartoon strip, http://www.uglyhill.com/index.html .
What's Ugly Hill got going for it? Well, the artwork and gag quality is professional level but enough of the stuff is just quirky enough to avoid being accepted by a syndicate house that it managed to tweak my taste for quirkiness.
There are a few other strips that I also really like, that I'm actually obsessed about regarding their quality and entertainment value, but I think I'll keep them to myself for now.

I just discovered I Fell Down the Stairs , which seems to have ever single one of the darkest ideas I've ever giggled at all condensed into one strip. I read 'em all and then called a friend. We read them aloud to each other over the phone for at least an hour. Horrifyingly awesome.
