When i was a little kid, my Dad was a greyhound bus driver. he would bring me comics that people left behind on his bus. So long before I could read, I had a pile of comics. Archie comics, superman comics, ghost comics, romance comics, whatever happened to get left behind, comics from DC and Charlton and Gold Key.

I would read them over and over, looking at the pictures and making up stories. When I was old enough to go to school, I went off to school eagerly every day, hoping to learn to read my comics.

Or so the family stories go, anyway.

Those old comics were actually masterpieces by Kirby and Ditko and the other real masters of comics.

So comics taught me how to read. I feel like comics have woven themselves into my DNA - I can hardly make myself clear but to draw words and pictures together to set it all straight.

Because comics are easier to read and can be read sort of quickly, they've made me read more. There's a few books that I've read because some comic book character mentioned them. The Far Side also made me want to read the encyclopedia more.

To be more serious, comics have taught me lots of morals and ethics in their overaxaggeratedly good characters. You know, like how old comics, the heros were always unrealistically nice but we love them anyway? Sometimes I think by teaching someone an extreme you at least get a mild.

A lot of comics have taught me to love people despite the wrongs they commit against me.

I thought adamantium was a real alloy.

Apparently, it's not.

I learned to read with comics when I was a kid. I remember being around 10 and being really into DC. If I saw me at age 10 now, I'd kick my ass. Even though I was reading good stuff, its still DC. And DC is for fags.
