Now this is just my opinion, and I'm not saying anyone or anything should change, but we don't really see to have very many comic strips on DD. Even the ones that are currently in the top ten most of them seem more like graphic novels IE: Culture Shock (No offense to culture shock it is a fine comic I just don't think it is a comic strip) just doesn't seem to have anything to do with comic strips.
So I'm not stay all strips need to be gag day or a 4 panel format but does anyone else feel like many of our strips are graphic novels undercover as opposed to real comic strips or if you don't what do you say is the difference between a strip and a story?

Because we're on the internet, there are no actual constraints on what you can do. You can have as many panels as your "idea" requires. To stick to the exact same format is quite a discipline. And the idea of creating some grand narrative also seems to be quite an enticing prospect for most people...

I have two ideas I've been slowly trying to develop, that are both strips. The problem is, it's slow going because I have very little time to work on them right now. They're like third and fourth on my list of things to draw each week. If I'm lucky I'll get to em maybe once a week.

I have an idea for a strip, but aside from the fact that Bulletproof is already eating up all my time, I've got the exact problem danthemancartoons mentioned - it's actually really difficult to stay within a certain strip format. And that might be why you don't see a lot of people doing it around here.

I do a hybrid. I'm considering changing at the 0201 to a strip format. The reason for doing six panels like I do is that its allows for comic book like style, with comic strip like content. Although I could mix and match at any time. If I felt like drawing a dynamic panel to mix up with the cut and pasted artwork, I could. I used to warp and distort panels, but I realized that if penis ever made it into a book form, I'd like it to read easy for people.
I've read a Garfield collection where its in the landscape sideways thing, and for some reason Garfield books seemed kind of expensive. Granted this was ten or fifteen years ago, so it may have changed by now.
In my years of doing comic stuff online, I've toyed with the comic strip format a few hundred times. I've also done vertical comics, comic books, flash animated comics, and whatever penis is. I've done it all, more than a few times over. In my estimation, I'd say over a hundred comic strips. I've found the format I use for penis and have used in other non-penis comics, to be the best. It reads easy, allows for more story/jokes and I re-sized it when I cam back in march to give more room to show off my wonderful art all the more better.
But yeah, my point above is my official stance on the update schedule. If you say you're going to do something, why do something else? Also why is their no respect for consistency and dedication? Just cause a guy does poop and wiener jokes, why be hatin?

I was just looking at the top ten strips and there is one I know is not a strip...
with lesser numbers in a strip someone doing a comic book can easily get more front page advertising by listing as a strip...

@ Midge:
The problem with that tactic is ppl wanting to read a comic or strip often do not want to read the other type, which is the reason why they clicked on comic or strip in the first place.

I would say there are quite a lot of people who love reading both comic strips and comic books...rarely are there people who are strictly reading only comic strips though. The point I was making is that there are comics which are either strip or book which are listed in the wrong section. I could list a number of these as examples. And it can be argued that some list their comics in strips because of the lesser amount posted, hence higher chance of popularity and getting into the top ten and posted on the front page...meaning more PR for their comic. Plus I was agreeing with EEN who was the one who started the thread and who had alluded to this same point...

I do Rocketship A Go-Go in the format of a classic comic strip. I agree, nowaday's there's no "need" to be a comic strip rather than another format (It's not like you can break into the newspapers!) but I think the format has a lot of value all on it's own.
But it's true, it seems like on DD you are free to self-describe as a comic strip or not, I suppose some people might prefer to be in the smaller category. That's probably balanced off if comic strips are actually just less popular.

Hmmm.... every webcomic (save two) that I've done currently and in the past I would consider a "strip".
Looks like there was an unseen mold I should break out of.

I think there are a few story comics on DD that like to go undercover in the strips category because the strips seem to be more popular and get more readers/comments.

You know....I think I didn't really understand the labelling scheme when I started here. I put my strip comic as a story comic. Do you think that is affecting my placement? Would switching to the correct "type" reset my rank? or would it be safe?

I'm not gonna lie, I've noticed several comic strips that are laid out as stories.
Now, I'm not too sure where the border between the 2 are, but when your comic is just obviously a story, it really shouldn't be in strips.
If people really are creating stories and are putting them in strips, than it is for one simple reason: it's hard to be in the top 100 (or so) stories...definitally when you have to compare your story to the likes of "Charby the Vampire", or something like that.
(sorry if I spelled that title wrong)
