So, what does a comic's name do for you?

Heck yeah, it's important. On DD, it's really the only front-page advertising you get.

Just imagine if Dilbert was called Multiple Often Amusing Workplace Gag-o-rama.

It's something that can make or break you.

A name is nothing, whats important is the content.

I chose what comics I want to read by there name. Something that isn't familiar like a japanese name pulls me in or something that is as simple word such as "JUMP". It is a must read because I want to know what that refers to or whatever. So the name is very important to me.

A good name is very important in the early parts of establishing your series; any professional will tell you that. The trick is to come up with a name that catches the readers attention and is easy to remember. Personally, I've never been very good with names (which is why my series is just the names of the main characters). A clever play on words is one of my personal favorites, especially if it's reasonably short. I'd heard somewhere that you should really strive for a two to three word name. Personally, I think 1 word names are fine, but I guess you can't come up with any cool abbreviations for them...

If all else fails, just name your comic after a song.

Repetition in a name is good. Especially if it relates to the content. :P

You could name your comic after a word that not many people have heard about, like my name (how many of you have searched up Myxomatosis? None? Oh. Nevermind) Or you could give people a long confusing name that makes them wonder what the hell the comic is about.

A name that provokes curiosity is the best.

.: Myxomatosis :.

I've gotta agree there. First of all, Pinky is a fun word. Fun to say, fun to read, and easy to remember. You don't forget a word like Pinky. The TA part, however, adds a bit of mystery. Not too much, mind you, but enough to have the reader say, "What the Hell is TA?"

You can't ask for too much from a title, but something enjoyable and slightly curious is a big help.

I concur. My comic's name has nothing to do with its subject superficially, but it does lend a certain "gravitas" to it, as well as make people want to investigate it further. And it's a durn good philosophy to boot!

A comic's name can be a good hook, or give you a good idea about something before you read it.. But how many times have you ended up explaining a comic anyway? The name's important, but it needs a good comic to back it up

The comic's name is what catches my eye, let alone anyone's. It has to be something awesome and cool, like The War of Winds, Bebop, and VGCats. I don't want to read a comic which name is "Penis", that turns everyone away. But it's not just the name that counts either, it's the content. Some comics could have the dumbest names but are really awesome like GCD.

I like names that sound like they're going to be buckets of fun. Something a little groovy. I'm not too keen on the one-word and character-name comics, because before I click, I don't know if 'Bruce' is going to be a burly American cop on the path for justice or an Australian transvestite who runs a bar in sunny Perth.

Yeah, but with one word, you can't have initials! Initials are important! I mean, I can have "TEO", but you can't have just "B". "B" as a name is mega-lame.

There are good points and bad points about each. I suppose another argument you could make for one-word titles is that they're easier to remember, especially if they're shorter. (Then again, if it's really long, like A Lesson Is Learned But The Damage Is Irreversible or Nine Planets Without Intelligent Life, then people remember it because it's so weird. Isn't it interesting how the mind works?)

Well, names seem to be pretty darn important, because they are indicitive of the theme of the comic. And sometimes, they have cute back stories. For instance, my comic's name is "magick?". It is called so because when I drew my first sketch of the main character, I was sitting in a coffee shop called "Koffee?". I rather liked the idea of spelling the name of my comic wrong, and the question mark fits with the scattered way my comic works, ergo the name "magick?" worked perfectly.

In retrospect, that story's not all that cute.

Well, the "C" is kind of superfluous. Why not just make it "Magik"? Like a Frito-Lay Snak Pak?

The names of the comics do give appeal. I'm more into story comics and when the title has a punch, I'd click and see what the heck is about?

Enjoy... Las Vegas-y

Comics with names that make me think "what in the name of all things mericful and holy is that!?" get more views from me.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

The comic that I don't really update at all has a better name than my other one. C'mon, which would you rather choose:

Life Like Weeds

or

Arch Angel?

...Thought so.

Well, I just wanted a word that was like 'illusion', and thought phantasm sounded cool.

Orlock does have a line in the prologue where he mentions a 'vampire phantasm'....and it just works with Jack and his whole "tearing apart illusion from reality" problems. Though more of that sort of thing won't start coming until later in the comic.

I meant in the old VP, or was it under a different title in the beginning?

Names are important in my opinion. My brother had a giant box of comics once, and some of them had the craziest names! One I remember went something along the lines of 'Radioactive Cat Man and his Teenage Friends' or something... I remember it because it was weird, yet self-explanitory. But the comic wasn't all that good and I only got through a little bit of one episode. But you can't make a name TOO long... Like unneccesarily long! Like that last example!

Acronyms are important, cause they're fun. When I write acronyms, I feel special. Maybe I just have a problem, but acronyms are the shiz, but having one or not won't kill you.

Character names are OK if used correctly. Charby the Vampirate seems to be doin' a-might well all over the front page!

For some reason I always click the name 'Mixed Bag Comics' on the front page, simply because I really like that name! Then after I click it I realize it's sprites. I hate sprites, and I will freely admit it in these forums. And at lunch. And to my family. But you never read me type that! But what I was getting at is that the name continually draws me in! Probably because I think of all the good things that come mixed, or in bags. Mixed nuts! Bags of marbles! The list goes on. Getting off the subject of MBC (acronym!), having a good story is usually more important. If there was a TV show called VIOLENCE, BEER and WOMEN but it was about a family of sockpuppets teaching morals to children I totally wouldn't watch it, because it's not what I expected and the plot is awful (as compared to violence, beer and women).

PS- Mazoo... which one was I supposed to pick? Because I think I'd check out either. o__o

Cosmic Dash describes the main character, setting, pacing and broadness of my concept.

I think I did pretty well naming it.

I've learned to aviod all comics with Jesus in the title. They're always either really stupid or by creepy over-religious psudeo-cult people, like the Sunshine Christians.

(If there are actually people named the Sunshine Christians, I'm sorry, but you should totally change your name. It sounds cultish.)

Tits & Ass, surely? XD Seriously. That's what it makes ME think of... :D

Penis is a great name for a comic. Even if it does initially make you go "I don't wanna look at THAT!" morbid curiosity ALWAYS gets the better of EVERYONE.
