I figured I should just put this out there for those entering the comic world. It concerns comparing one person's comics to another.
This can actually go two ways:
The positive way: When you say something like "your comic is as good as such-and-such's comic", and then the creator goes and checks the other's comic, and it's good, then this can be a complement.
The negative way: When you say "your comic is a rip-off of such-and-such's comic", and the creator either has no idea what you're talking about, or proves you wrong by checking the other comic and finding no similarities, this is just an excuse to get someone pissed at you.
While it's an OK idea to say the positive thing, it's generally recommended you just say "Your comic is great/awesome/incredible/etc." This way, there's less of a chance of getting someone mad at you.
And that is my sagely advice. Remember it well, grasshopper.

Yeah, I try not to compare people's comics to other things, because it usually annoys me when people do it to me, especially when they make it sound like I'm copying a comic that I've never read and/or heard of. :/ I don't mind it when people tell me my art or story reminds them of something else (preferably something else that they liked, haha), but it gets on my nerves when it takes on an accusatory tone, like I'm sitting in my dimly lit basement cackling and rubbing my hands together while stealing ideas from people. =p
Uh, anyway. I guess that was just a long winded way of saying that I agree in most cases it's best to just leave the comparisons at the door.

It could easily backfire. Someone could say my comic is as good as someone else's, and mean it in a positive way. But I could think the comic in question is awful.

I don't think I compare comics to other comics so much as I compare visual styles.

Well, that can work the same way. If you say that "this comic's art was influenced by such-and-such's art", then the artist usually takes great offense to that.
Their art is their own style. Saying it looks like someone else's is a big taboo for them.

Well, I think a good comic has to be able to stand on its own. If it's comparable to something else, no matter how good the art/story is, I don't think that's a very good sign.
