I originally was attracted to this game out of respect for a fellow pixel artist, but the game reopened a door I had never thought I could venture through again.

Cave Story [miraigamer.net] is somewhat of a mix between Metroid, a little bit of Mega Man, and definitely features Castlevania-inspired themes. If you're looking for a bit of a retro feel to your game, I'd recommend checking it out.

Best of all, it's free!

A bit of backstory:

The creator developed the art, coding, and gameplay solely on his own. It took him five years. Apparently he's already picked up a contract with Nintendo because of this (and Cave Story will eventually appear on Wii Ware). Good stuff.

It won't eventually be on WiiWare. It is on WiiWare. Now.

Of course, the WiiWare version is more buggy than the original, has major soundtrack issues and makes VERY controversial translation changes. I'd recomend just downloading it on PC and connecting a Wii remote via Bluetooth (I'm pretty sure there's some way to do it.)

What is this, the third topic we've had on Cave Story, now?

My apologies, I am still looking for the Search function on these forums. Otherwise I wouldn't have made a duplicate topic.

And hey, I think it's worth mentioning again anyway. It originally began as a largely underground game, I'm surprised it's already been picked up over here.

There used to be one but it disappeared. It used to be in the top right corner back when Platinum owned this site. They really should reinstall another forum content search bar.
Those were my two cents.

Just go to Google and type site:http://www.drunkduck.com/community/ at the end. Voila.

Also, apparently Cave Story posts have been around since 2006. O_O

Ah, thanks for the tip in searching through Google.

Yeah, thanks for bearing with me, this whole time I thought the Search function was just being elusive. I'm still semi-new to these forums.

In an effort to be useful, here's the link to the other main Cave Story thread:

locking now just for tidiness, no offense. :] It is annoying that there's no search bar for the forums.
