Recently I decided to check my comic stats, something I normally forget to do. (I always figured if I made it into the top 10 or something like that someone would tell me.) Anyway I decided to check my comic Villainy Minor and see where it stood. Much to my delight it was #75 in comic strips. It was a top 100 strip, so while there is room for improvement that doesn't sound to bad. Then I looked over to the right and saw I was #220 over all much to my surprise. That is pretty pig differce between those two numbers.
It got me wondering which rating do people care more about? Your Catagory Rating or your Over All Rating?

As far as rating, it mostly affects the browse/search. I would say generally, your category (or genre) rating is most significant, because people will usually be searching for specific types of comics they want to see. Plus, it is the top 10 of each category that will make it to the main page not simply the top 20 comics. Category rank is what gets you noticed. After all, Craving Control is pretty much never among the top 5 comics on the site, but it still gains all kinds of talk about it because it is often the #1 or #2 strip. (While the number 4 or 5 story comic is far less noticed, even though the overall rank is higher.)

I look at both, but it's the specific genre rating that really interests me. I don't really think it's that important how my comic rates against something that's created for a completely different target demographic.

If people cared more about genre, I would be so much more popular right now. (#3 Spiritual comic)
So, I think overall rating is what people find more important.

My stats -
DrunkDuck Rank: #39 in Comic Strip #119 Overall
I like both. I miss being in the top 20. I've more or less given up on being #1 overall, it'd take about 10,000 more readers than what I got now, according to my research the popular comics are nearly untouchable.
I'm more interested in the day to day comments. I usually average 2-4 comments every day, but some days I seem to get like 10-15 range. I don't know what I do different those days, but its happened once or twice a month. Dunno why.
I'm happy with my statistics in both rankings. 39's not bad and niether is 119. Its not top 100, but I figure a day or two I'll be back down into the mid 20s and the low 70s-80s area.
Just my two cents.

Neither really matter all that much, although I've been lingering on the edge of top 1000 for a long time. Usually I look at my Catagory rating when I want to feel better about myself, and my Over All rating when I need to motivate myself.

I don't care as much about my rating as a strip, as much as overall.
I don't care that much though, I'd rather have a few awesome readers than a bunch of idiots.

I'm amazed that I left the top 1,000. I'm in the top 140 overall and in the top 100 in stories. I'm perfectly happy with where I am and I've vastly exceeded my own expectations.
highest rating so far has been #11 in comic books, #13 overall. It's pageviews are almost half a million!!

I'm kinda a dope and look at my rival comics on the list and look and see if my similar genre/story/art comic is higher than them or not. (which is mostly between my comics. You see they are sibling rivals.)
I used to care about Demon Eater being in the top 5 for horror comic, but it's not that big of a deal now.
I notice the more I update the higher up the list my comic gets.

Me, I'm just happy it's nowhere near the dreaded place in the top 2,000 as it once was. But I also don't like to look at it as "I'll never get to the top 10", I want to think of it as "Now how do I get to the top 10?"

I have a unique way of checking my rating... it's a personal rating.
My comics' titles only use one fairly common "comic books" word - FIGHT. So I type that into search and leave all categories open.
I get 138 total results (6 pgs) by searching "FIGHT." I used to be on the 4th-5th page of that. But now my 2 comics occupy the 9th and 10th spots of that search! W00T!!!
I know I'll never beat Cowboys & Aliens, or Phineus the Magician. But my personal goal is to beat Tony the Hedgehog. A Sonic sprite comic occupying 4th place... WTF, that's just blasphemy!
