Can I use your comics for a lesson?

First of all, I just want to thank everyone for their help in the educational comics thread. :D It really helped me out and it also gave me a good list of comics I have to check out. So thanks a lot you guys!

I'm currently doing my practicum for teacher's college and I got really lucky because my associate teacher loves comics. She was planning on doing a unit on comics and animation for her grade 9 art class and when I expressed an interest in it, she suggested that I teach the unit instead.

I found this out today though and in two days, I'll be starting the unit. ^^;; So basically, I have to stay one step ahead of them and just do my best.

I don't normally do this but I also don't normally have one day to make a lesson plan. So basically, this is what I'm looking for:

If you have absolutely no problem with me using your comic as an example to the class, then please post here. I'm not promising I'll actually use your comic but if I know I have your permission to use it, then I'll probably look through your archives and see if there's anything I can use. I also have certain people in mind and as they come to me, I'll probably contact them through PQ.

Things I am looking for:
- Classroom appropriate (no nudity, no sex, no swearing, no violence.)
- Not a sprite comic. I'm trying to deal with as little copyright issues as possible. I know there's all this fair use and all that but this is one thing I can avoid so I will.
- If you use animation, music, basically anything that takes advantage of the fact that you're on the web, that would be really cool. I'm hoping to talk about webcomics towards the second half of the unit.
- Generally, I'm looking for a comic that is readable, has decent art, and will not get me an angry phone call from a parent/principal. It can be a comic strip, a page from your comic story, whatever.

Things I can promise you:
- I will not sell your work.
- Unless you give me permission to do so, I will not photocopy your comic as a handout for the class. I will most likely use your comic as a lesson example by projecting it on an overhead or using it as a slide.
- I will not claim it's mine.

Would anyone be interested?

You could use my three latest animation here , here and here .

Unusually for me there is absolutely NO flesh on display, just faces. and forearms. :)
Everyone is very modestly attired!
There is zero violence!
As for swearing, in the first movie Pinky says "Bastards" and "hell", but only one of each and only in the first movie.

You're free to use anything of mine (and as photocopied handouts) if you can find anything that fits what you're looking for. Probably not, they're not that great. ^_^ But I should offer just in case. There's some nudity in the filler art/pictures I put up, but nothing more than cleavage really in the main comic, and a lot of strips without even that.

Edit: Hah, I just realised there's a naughty joke in the lastest strip. That's the only one I (can remember that I) use, though. ^_^

Feel free to use Crimson Dark if you think it could be in any way helpful. It has some mild violence, so I'm not sure whether it's suitable, but I'll let you be the judge.

You cuold probably use my more recent comic . I'm trying to keep the content fairly kid safe in that one. Violence is on par with what you'd see on TV, no blood or guts.

I'd be really stoked if you use this strip

It's one of the deepest strips I got and it relates to school life pretty well. I also explained the meaning of the strip in the rant under it.

Also this might or might not be of use.

I did a presentation on webcomics for AnimeEvolution 2006 that included a powerpoint presentation and extensive notes (9 pages single spaced) on webcomics, more towards serial comics/graphic novels than strips, but its still relevant to both. If you want, I could pass those along. While I'd offer up my comic Brymstone, I don't think its appropriate. I've got a few pages that might be okay such as this and this [brymstone.net], but the work in its entirety is for more of a mature audience. Lots of violence and swearing. :P

It's all very "artsy" so perhaps it could be of some use to you. ;)

You can use mine. My comics tend to be a little brown, but some of them are classroom apropriate. Also, if you have a specific example you want to illustriate I can wip up a comic really quick for you.

Emma is pretty clean at this point (I think I've sworn on 4 pages), so if it has anything useful to you, feel free.

You could use my own comic, if it would at all fit... not all pages are violent. I am not sure they cut it as art though (since I'm not a professional artist)- but anyway, if they serve your purpose, you can use them :)

Thank you so much you guys! :D

I'm sorry I haven't really responded earlier. I've been trying to stay one step ahead of them and that meant staying up every night to do preparation work. I try to draw my own worksheets and examples but there's only so much I can draw and I really want the students to see a wide range of examples.

I've so far been using people's comics as examples and as materials for class activities. I'm hoping that in the final days of my practicum, I can get them to look at webcomics.

You can use mine. The rudest word used there is 'crap'.

Also, how long is this unit going to last?

Feel free to help yourself to my appropriate animations.

(Here , here (pop-culture references a-plenty), here , here? , and most assuredly here .)

If you show them from the website, I can't guarantee that the author's notes are clean... Sorry 'bout that. Otherwise, enjoy, and good luck to ya.

Things I am looking for:
- Classroom appropriate (no nudity, no sex, no swearing, no violence.)

Check on all four. Well, that disqualifies me.

If you're stilling looking for something to use, you can use my comic
but since it's only 5 pages long right now, I doubt it'll help you much.
