A cartoon I haven't seen since I was a kid just popped back into my head. Problem is, I can't remember it's name or nearly anything else at all, and what I do remember is too vague, obscure, or pointless that it's not really of any use when searching for it. Of course, the more I think about it, the more I want to see it again.

I mentioned this to my brother, and he said he has very vague memories of a Robinson Crusoe type cartoon.

What I do remember (keep in mind I may be wrong):

It's about a writer, who is supposed to be stranded on a deserted island (I think), he had to send letters back to people in civilisation at the end of every day.

The island wasn't deserted, and he had to stop people finding out.

He had ginger hair and a beard.

He might have been called Oscar. I base this entirely on the fact that when I think about it, the name keeps popping into my head. It's probably incorrect.

Of all the dialogue, the only line I remember is Possibly Oscar saying 'Stay here, I'll try to wake her quietly'. Even this is unreliable, I'm not sure if he said 'stay here' or if he said 'quietly' or 'gently'.

I remember a bit where someone gets salt in their eyes.

That's it. I know this is hardly useful information, but it's all I have to go on. If any of this rings any bells at all, even if they're seemingly unrelated, please let me know.

Wow, I have no idea. You're in England, right? I'm guessing then it was a British show... does anything on this page sound familiar?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't British. The main character had an American accent (I'll check though that list anyway though, just in case).
