got it, loved it, get it.
first time you play it, it feels like a movie especially at the first stage. insane ending on that stage. also the long drive is crazy detail (you'll know what i mean when you play the game)

I placed mine on veteran and it is insane, gotta be very tactical and you can't move out into open spaces. there are numerous ways to get to the other side of the field. i can't wait till i'm a sniper with the gilly suit on...

and i still haven't tried Multiplayer yet

this is prolly the most photorealistic game i've ever played and it's very optimized.
here's some screen cap from my machine:

A 5-6 hour single-player campaign for $60?

No dice.

---

I'll wait and besides, I don't even have $60 to begin with : (

it's the quality of the game, not the quantity that makes it good to play.
why play a 60 hr game with bad textures, robotic models, bad sound...that's pointless.

Besides which, the PC version doesn't cost $60. It's actually kind of bad that console versions of games cost more than the superior PC counterparts, especially when you consider most downloadable content is free on the PC and gameplay is rarely pay-to-play outside of the MMO genres. And I'm quite positive that production costs don't go down when a game is visually superior to other versions and has to be made to work on an open platform.

I'd like to think it's a combination of the two.

Random person: This game looks so fucking amazing! Too bad I finished it before I could take off my shoes.

But that's what online play is for.

there's only so much money they can put into an investment...

but if given a choice of investing on a game that's long and boring and dull or one that innovates but slightly short that your average RPG i would go for the innovative one (replayable value is very high on this game) almost every respawn the enemy reacts differently and sometimes they look different.

like this one part where you are in a gunship protecting your allies
which looks like those authentic war videos

well, if people really wanna play the game right...they should start off at the hardest level.
i mean with the normal settting, it was like playing god mode on.

with the hardest level on, every corner of the map is like a struggle. your enemies actually has more chance of head shooting you, or doing crazy tactics to flank you.
i've still haven't done half of the game yet...but i'm satisfied because i earned everything i've done.

one time i had a 5 min battle fight and had to carry someone to the helicopter, so i couldn't use my weapon and the first time i did that i was 2 steps away from the helicopter and someone head shot me. The next time i was zig zagging until i reached it.

the game shouldn't be blamed if a person just plays it on easy/normal mode and goes with the motion. every battle is very original and you've got permutating objectives.

I'd probably start on normal. I'm not very good at FPS's.

I'd start on the hardest mode.

It was what changed Gears of War from a good game to a great one. And I thought it was too short at 10-15 hours.

A great game really needs 30 solid hours. Thats enough for playing it every evening for a few hours over the course of a week. Considering most new games you get, you'll want to play like crazy, why get a short game when you can get a long one?

Most action games don't clock in at 30 hours. Just about every action game that we consider to be a great can be beaten in under 10. I don't know where people have gotten this idea that action games are SUPPOSED to be as long as RPGs. Looking back at the top rated games from this and previous generations certainly doesn't support that theory.

OH HAI GUYZ NECROPOST

Anyway, BEST FUCKING FPS EVER. No, really. Hands down.

I got it just yesterday, and have been playing it almost non-stop since. Everything about it is awesome. Great graphics, great controls, EXCELLENT character customization, in fact, great pretty much everything.

And guess what? I've never played the single-player campaign. :)

Nice graphics in the demo... But it played like an arcade game.
I love good graphics but I find after the first dazzle I don't even think about them that much, I just want good game play. :)

While the graphics ARE good, that's not what makes this game awesome. What makes it awesome is how great the controls are, and how a-fucking-mazing the multiplayer is. Also the custom class system kicks ass.

I got CoD 4 on the Xbox 360 for Christmas and just dove into the multiplayer mode for the first time yesterday. I wasn't expecting a lot because neither of the last two Call of Duty games were particularly spectacular in multiplayer mode, but CoD 4 blew me away. At first it was a bit weird getting used to how easy it was to kill somebody/get killed, but I think that it works with the tone of the game. The maps that I've played on have been very well-designed (I particularly like Showdown). The levelling system is great too as it unlocks a bunch of neat new stuff without being overpowering (I went into a game at level 2 and ended up with all of the players being at least twenty or so levels higher than me and did just fine).

Ever since I played America's Army, I've been a fan of realistic modern combat games. I hate the amount of propaganda in them though. It's easy to die in COD4, but that just makes you think harder about where you go for cover. I'm not sure if anyone's played the source mod The Insurgency, but I don't believe I've ever felt so weak in a game in my life. Chances are, if you get shot at and your enemy is using his iron sights, you're going to die. It's so fun.

Red Dot > Iron Sights

So yeah, what kind of class do you generally use?

Here's mine.

Primary Weapon: AK47 with Red Dot sights
Secondary Weapon: The third handgun, can't remember its name. No silencer because it reduces range.
Special Grenades: Flash Grenades
Perk 1: RPG
Perk 2: Stopping Power
Perk 3: Last Stand.

Huh, ok. I thought it was a joke because I thought there WASN'T a DS version.

Still though, you should get the platform version (PREFERABLY PS3 SO I HAS SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH), because it has moar things.

Haha. No dice.

A great first person shooter captivates the player and brings then into the surrounding, it gives you a purpose for fighting and makes you feel as if one is part of the combat, or part of the fight. A great shooter features the following: Great campaign and level design, a good array of weapons, smart AI, and enemy design.

Call of Duty 4 is far from the best first person shooter, as it is merely a multiplayer game with a single player tossed in. If you want a good first person shooter, go back and try some Doom, some Battlefield 1942, some Goldeneye, and the original Half-Life (...and to a lesser extent, Half Life 2, which had great level design but felt much too linear). All these games were challenging, fun, and were actually original for the time. Not to mention they have fantastic replay value.

(I'd say Duke Nukem 3D, being revolutionary in it's time and all, but the humor gets old and the level design much too dull. It's great nostalgica though...)

Call of Duty 4 is merely a rehash, only to be forgetten in the following months when the next pretty scripted shooter comes out, much like Crysis, or Halo 3, or any other shooter this year that everyone is proclaiming as the BEST EVER HURF DURF.

2007 sucked for shooters, the only interesting one was BioShock... and they even managed to fuck that up with some very stupid design choices.

*Giant tl;dr post*

I COMPLETELY disagree about any part of CoD4 being BAD. I've heard a LOT of people praise the single player (Haven't played it myself, I never really cared for the campain in an FPS besides Turok 2 and Resistance), and I've always thought of FPS's as multiplayer gaems anyway.

And CoD4 has some fucking EXCELLENT multiplayer, ESPECIALLY online. I could really give a shit less about the graphics too, what really makes me wet about it is the whole thing with customizable classes, as well as the fact that the control scheme is BEAUTIFUL. It makes me CRY just to think about it.

I can, however, see why you might like some of the oldschool FPS's better. After all, I feel the same way about pokemans.
