For me, it'd have to be GTA IV. It was fun for a bit, but it was way too linear and I lost interest the week it came out.

I'd say Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Not that I can recall. And even if there was and I just don't remember it, the basic premise isn't reason enough to lock a thread: as long as everyone is civil everything's fine.

Looks like the topic I was thinking of was about systems, not games. Anyway, on topic:

Super Smash Brothers Brawl was the biggest disappointment for me. They removed any last semblance of game balance, ruined the single player mode and actually made the game less fun than it was before. At least with new franchises it's easier to not get your hopes too high, but it is really disappointing when I'd rather play an N64 game over the Wii sequel.

Runners up would probably be Lost Odyssey, Sonic: Unleashed, and Mario Kart Wii.

Fable 2. It's not exactly a huge dissapointment, it's still pretty fun...but I expected a LOT more from it.

Resistance 2. How anyone was able to play that for more than two levels is beyond me. Oboy, generic first person shooter #334~

Leave it to Isukun to be disappointed in a game he hated in advance.

My biggest disappointment was Mario Kart Wii. I loved the tracks and the driving mechanics were great. I also loved steering with the Wiimote. What fouled it us was the items. There were too many that targeted everyone in front of you, and most of them were unavoidable. If you're good enough to stay ahead, you should be prepared for a POW block, blooper, or blue shell every 5 seconds.

I don't recall hating the game in advance. I had some issues with the proposed control schemes using the wiimote or the wiimote and nunchuck combo as well as the online gameplay, but I was pretty optimistic about everything else. Not surprisingly, both ended up sucking in the end, but those aren't the main reasons I found Brawl disappointing. I didn't have any hatred for the single player mode, the super moves, new items, characters or other features until I saw everything in action and played the game for myself.

I really can't think of one that was a huge disappointment for me although I had high expectations for Star Wars Force Unleashed and while it was still a decent game in my opinion, it didn't live up to the hype.

I actually loved Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Wii. Of course, I say that having not played Melee or the original N64 version. I understand the game mechanics changed quite drastically from Melee to Brawl to encourage more casual players. I still enjoyed Brawl a lot.

At least you had fun for some time, I lost interest the week it came out. Then it just sat there on my game collection until I traded it in.

Fallout 3. It was like enjoying a wonderful, expensive dinner. Then for dessert the chef just shits in your mouth.

Also, LittleBig Planet. At first I tried to think up of excuses to enjoy it, but then I realised its only redeeming feature was Stephen Fry, on whom I have a crush of screaming schoolgirl proportions.

I think 5 weeks is a pretty healthy amount of time to enjoy a game, but maybe that's just me. I'm sure there are other factors; like, there are some games that I played for months that I didnt' enjoy the whole time (example: Star Wars Galaxies).

I adore Stephen Fry. At least you have a chance with him. :[

About 3/4 through the way of Fable 2 you meet a character voiced by Stephen Fry. I actually shouted "Stephen Fry!" Also he was the most awesome character in that game which made me extra happy.

I'd have to say Fable 2 was my disappointing game. I did enjoy it a lot, but like the first one, the game was too short and has little replay value. They could have added a lot more replayability with very little effort and just didn't do it. After you beat the quests there's basically nothing to do and no reason to re-enter the tiny dungeons or re-explore the map. There are 'jobs' but they are either so incredibly mindless or so incredibly short and easy there's no fun in doing them.

In order for a game to be worth its money to me, it has to endure forever.

All my favorite games, even the mediocre favorites, are ones I could just pick up and play at any time. Of course, I don't, because there're oh so many things in life that distract me from these precious games... ;_; (I'm a fan of doing too many things) BUT I seem to enjoy new games a lot longer than other people, and it gets me down because, for example, the Brawl rush died down among my friends quickly and I ran out of people to play with. (I still have tons of fun with a few of my friends with that game ever so often though. :D I have little desire to play it alone anymore though, because it's just SO much more fun with friends. I wish I owned the original SSB...)

Anyway, I don't buy enough games to be disappointed in them, because I don't have that much money. I only buy things I know I'll like, which is why 2008 was a fantastic year for me. (No More Heroes, Brawl, remakes of games that came out over a decade ago and are STILL awesome)

BUT, I did buy freaking PLATTCHEN for WiiWare and the game is unplayable, mother of shit. X_x I couldn't even start it; the menus are unnavigable and the explanations for gameplay MAKE NO SENSE, grammatically or otherwise.

I think that Soul Caliber 4 was my biggest disappointment, just like the one before it I don't think they will ever be able to live up to the 2nd installment.

I was pretty psyched about Left 4 Dead, and I do love the game and have gotten hours of fun out of it, there's just something missing. I'm not sure what it is, but the game just seems to be lacking in something somehow.

As you've probably guessed, I really haven't played many 2008 games yet, owing to my being a generation behind everyone else until Christmas.

I also love that game, though I wouldn't mind a deeper story mode and more campaigns for online.^^

Yeah, it lacked length. I hope there's some DLC down the line...

I was terribly disappointed in Fable 2. It felt like I was done with the game before I even bloody started it with how short the main quest was. I beat the game in two days. TWO. Why the balls did I pay 60 dollars for this shit?

Fable 2. It's not exactly a huge dissapointment, it's still pretty fun...but I expected a LOT more from it.
I think it depends how you play it. I played Fable 2 a couple of times and enjoyed it more each time.

The first time, I focused on getting through the story and felt much the same as you did. It was short and the story line was okay but fairly run-of-the-mill fantasy RPG stuff. I noticed it said you can continue playing after the story had finished and so I interacted a few times with villagers, married one, but really didn't have enough gold to buy a decent house etc. I still couldn't understand why it had received such glowing reviews.

The second time, I began trying to win villagers' approval early (which reduced the cost of items) and I bought properties as soon as I could afford them (starting with small stalls). It might not sound like a big difference but I found it added a lot to the game. It was the closest thing I've found to playing WoW offline. By the end of the story, I had over one million gold which meant I could buy the "special" properties in the game (Brightwood Tower, Fairfax Castle etc) which opened up new quests, adding to the length of the game. By the time I'd finished those, I could understand why it was so well received by the critics.

It is a great game but, to get the most out of it, you really have to get involved with everything in it, even the things that may seem unimportant at first (e.g. getting every gargoyle, buying properties, opening demon doors etc.) Almost everything that seems like a mere distraction from getting on with the story, eventually opens a door to something else!
