Zack and Wiki was the only game worth $50 on the system. Most of the games continuing from the Gamecube were a step backwards from their Gamecube iterations, especially Brawl. With Nintendo's "new direction" things are probably just going to get worse for people who bought the Wii expecting a gaming system and not a gimmick-ridden piece of crap catering to the under 10 audience.

I cant agree with you because the Wii is very cool and i dont know why you are saying that.
The new control is fun and yes sometimes you want to go old-school with a sideways controller so it is fun but very expensive.
The games are very fun and Brawl(in my humble opinion)is very good i see no error or going backwards.
I think we are talking about gameplay and everything, you know the price can be expensive but its worth the while.
And man if you wait the prices will go down dont buy it the same day it launches!

Maybe I'm just not the blind devotee some others around here are. I bought the damn thing and it has yet to impress me on any level. When the best they can do during the holiday season is Wii Music, there is something WRONG there. Nintendo doesn't care about gamers, they've publicly stated so, I just don't see what you people have to hang on to, anymore. Nintendo limits what they third parties can do with the system, but has no intention of following up their "demos" with real games and they have yet to follow up anything from the last generation with a superior title this generation. They've been actively removing gameplay elements from their previous games with the followups and once people caught on, they stated they weren't going to focus on the gamer market anymore. It's a big "F you" from the big N. Get with the times people, Nintendo isn't what they used to be.

Best Wii game? I think it's Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

Regarding Isukun, yes he hates Nintendo. And while I don't agree with all the things he just said, there's a little grain of truth to many of his points. Many of their games haven't quite reached the quality level of their Gamecube crop (I think there are exceptions). This is a very weak holiday season for Nintendo. And yes, Nintendo has been distracted from gamers recently... a trend that I don't think will last forever.

However:
- EVERY console manufacturer limits what third parties can do. Don't pretend it's just Nintendo.
- Though this holiday season would indicate such, Nintendo never stated "We're not going to focus on the gamer market anymore". In fact, after their crappy E3 showing it has become increasingly evident that Nintendo's trying to fix things.
- Evidence being that YES, there are some really good things to look forward to in 2009. Nintendo put together a really good press conference recently.

Now, Isukun... let's create a hypothetical situation. Let's say I told you that the PS3 has no games worth owning. Then you would say, "Wrong! Little Big Planet, Valkyria Chronicles, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, etc." to which I would say, "No, I don't like any of those games".

That's essentially what you're doing with the Wii. It's okay that you don't like the Wii's library of games, but for you to deny that there are games worthwhile to some people is just silly. My Wii library is larger than my Xbox360 or PS3 library. It's sad that you can't enjoy Metroid Prime 3 or Super Mario Galaxy, but don't pretend that we can't either.

I think an argument could be made that many of the sequel games from Nintendo aren't as good as previous games in the series. But does that necessarily mean that the new game is bad? I don't think so. Personally, I don't think that Smash Bros. Brawl is a "better" game than Melee, but it's not a worse game either. It's just one of those things where they didn't really change anything: they just added more stuff. Similarly, Twilight Princess was Ocarina of Time with more stuff, Mario Galaxy was Mario 64 with gravity puzzles, Mariokart Wii was Mariokart 64 with more racers, etc.. Now, the question really lies in what the player wants: do you want a sequel to be a different game, or do you want it to be the game you already enjoyed but with more stuff?

I remember playing through Resident Evil 4 on the Gamecube not too long ago (after having already played it thoroughly on the Wii), and I found myself greatly preferring the Wii version simply because it wasn't such a chore to aim the gun. The same went for Metroid Prime 3 in comparison to the other Prime games; I just can't get used to how clunky the control in the older games feel in comparison. Hell, Twilight Princess is very much a gamecube game, and although I don't mind the whole "waggle" thing, I understand that a lot of people do. But that said, I still find it a lot more fun simply for how easy it is to aim things with the Wii remote compared to wrestling the sticks.

So anyway, if we're going to talk about good Wii games, I'll go ahead and give out my list...

Rayman Raving Rabbids2 - Haven't played the new one. The Wii has a plague of shallow minigame compilations; RRR stands out by being a shallow minigame compilation that's a blast to play, simply because of the presentation.

No More Heroes - Similar to R3, it's not the bast action-adventure game out there, but it's just so damn fun. You want to unlock things just to see how crazy and over the top it makes everything.

Super Mario Galaxy - Nintendo hasn't made a bad game in the Mario series proper yet, and this is no exception.

WarioLand: Shake It - Not a stellar title, but I'm just glad someone is making a classic, 2D sidescroller for a home system. Motion controls feel a little more tacked on than in other games (see: Mario Galaxy) but worth the effort anyway.

Metroid Prime 3 - As I said, my favorite in the Prime series simply for how fun and natural it is to aim in this one. The motion controls added to the environment interaction (like actually having to pull the remote to activate a lever) help with immersion, but sometimes they read wrong and just become frustrating.

MarioKart Wii - A great game for the Wii... not the best Mariokart game. They didn't quite balance it out right when they added 8 more racers to each round. Controls are tight, though, and a solid (if thin) online helps.

Zelda: Twilight Princess - Despite the hassle of waggling the controller to swing the sword, it's a solid Zelda title. Lacks some of the tedium of Windwaker, but doesn't "wow" you like OOT did. The Wolf Link thing doesn't feel as tacked on as I thought it would.

Zack and Wiki - Great puzzle game that makes great use of the Wii Remote. Nintendo themselves could learn a lot from this game.

Smash Bros. Brawl - Another great game in the Smash series. Doesn't innovate like the change from the original to Melee, but it's still solid in all the right areas. The Subspace Emissary is a welcome platforming action adventure, especially in co-op, but more effort needed to be put into the enemies and level design. Online is playable, but disappointing.

Sam and Max Season 1 - There's no real benefit to playing this on Wii vs. PC, but if you prefer one over the other, this is a Hell of a ride for oldschool point and click fans.

Dr. Mario: Online Rx - Classic Dr. Mario. Doesn't innovate, though; the new game modes are largely shallow and passable. Online is fun, though hard to progress through since a lot of players are insanely good.

Most of the great games on the system come from Nintendo; though there are probably some good ones I just haven't played. It really is sad that Nintendo is focusing their efforts on things like Wii music right now; they've kind of "shot their load" on this generation of their classic franchises. Every one of them is a welcome addition; though they don't always manage to innovate over their predecessors.

I'm with you on the Wii aiming. I went back to the GC version of Resident Evil 4 when back home with my little brothers, and aiming was such a pain! actually really conflicted on Resident Evil 5, because I know it will look great, but there's NO WAY the 360/PS3 controllers will work as well as the Wii's would have. Metroid Prime 3 is another example of the way things should be, and why I'm actually looking forward to Conduit, despite not being the kind of guy to want Sci-Fi shooters anymore. I'm

Nintendo still makes great games. I think one of the problems is that Nintendo was expecting third parties to take good games like Metroid Prime 3 as an example, but most third parties said "No, copying Wii Sports and Raving Rabbids is cheaper and easier". One thing I'll definitely fault Nintendo for is not enforcing higher standards in software, though I definitely will not say they haven't released plenty of excellent titles themselves.

I've always wanted to try Shaun White's Snow Boarding with the Wii Fit board. that seems like the only way to play compared to the 360/PS3.

Of the games that I've played:
WarioLand: Shake it
SSMB
No More Heroes

I was watching something where it was saying that a lot of developers were nervous about creating serious games for the wii after the failure of Red Steel. Apparently the release of the Wii MotionPlus is supposed to help sort out some issues with the controller's reponsiveness ... or something.

Best games for me are Twilight Princess and Mario Kart.

Actually, the biggest problem is that Nintendo doesn't help third parties to develop games on the same level as their own. The dev kits are too limited to get any real motion controls out of the controllers, Nintendo has a tendency to delay approval on games if they want to be the first to use a particular control scheme, they don't help third parties to get the most out of their technology, they don't help third parties advertise like their competitors do, and all these things put together often result in a good game getting miserably poor sales. This leaves third parties with really only one option, make games fast and cheap that don't do anything to push gaming forward on the platform.

Not so much responsiveness as it is the ability to detect directional movement to approximate positioning. It is something that should have been part of the controller to begin with (something I have mentioned several times on these boards in the past). Unfortunately, coming two and a half years after the launch means it is just one more expense the gaming public needs to buy into (as if the $40+$20 on the controllers wasn't bad enough) in order for developers to even give it a second look. It makes games far more complex, which could be good if developers found a way to actually get their games to sell on the system.

Y'know, you're always saying things like this, and I've gotta wonder where you're getting it from. Is this just something that Nintendo does? I'm not sure if Sony holds all the developers' hands and guides them through their system. I have heard that Xbox is the easiest system to program for (at least, according to some guys at Square-Enix when they were asked about it). The way you talk about it sounds like Nintendo has some kind of malicious intent; like they don't want other people making good games for their system.

Part of it was from an article in Game Informer (I think) where they were looking back to past developer interviews to try to figure out why the library of games on the Wii was so disappointing compared to other systems. The bit about delaying approval was from a developer interview. The rest is just simple observation.

The way you talk about it sounds like Nintendo has some kind of malicious intent; like they don't want other people making good games for their system.

I don't think it is intentionally malicious, it's just how they have done business since the N64 days. They're used to being top dog on their own systems and a lot of their revenue from the past two system came from software sales (they weren't selling systems so they had to make up that revenue somewhere else). It's a tactic that works for them since they can make more off of in house games than licensing fees when the third party market is weak, but it is definitely not good for the third parties who want to capitalize on the Wii's larger user base and it doesn't encourage developers to take risks on the system when their games rarely sell above 50,000 units, even when they get high ratings.

WTF?Some selled more above 800,000 units!
Even i heard about 1,000,000!

Super Smash Bros. Brawl has been critically acclaimed and commercially successful. In the United States, the game sold 874,000 units on launch day and 1.4 million units in its first week to become the fastest-selling video game in Nintendo of America's history, according to Nintendo

That was what Wikipedia sayed.

Of the fifteen games that have sold over a million units in the US, only two were made by third parties. The majority of games that sell in large quantities are made by Nintendo. Of the 32 games that have broken a million worldwide, 17 were made by Nintendo. Of the 41 that have average scores over 80 on metacritic, all 7 of the Nintendo titles are million sellers, only three of the rest even broke half a million. It doesn't pay to dump time and money into games on the Wii unless you're Nintendo. That was my point.

Don't take half a sentence out of context and pretend I said something completely different, it reflects negatively on you.

Well Isukun, I do agree with you on a few things. The WiiMotionPlus should have been in the Wiimotes from the get-go. The way the Wii was advertised near launch implied that it has capabilities that it does not. Nintendo never directly told us that the Wiimote could report its location in space, but when people assumed it could, Nintendo didn't say a thing.

And for some reason, the idea of Nintendo not being as helpful to third parties as they could be doesn't seem like too much of a stretch. We know what Nintendo used to be, and we know they really upset some third parties in the past.

But I do recall Nintendo advertising other developers' games. Not so much recently, but closer to the Wii's launch I remember seeing clips of lots of games, not just Nintendo's game, being advertised. If Sony and Microsoft do this better than Nintendo, it's because they don't have a choice. They don't put out the volume of games that Nintendo does, so getting people to buy their systems means they're going to HAVE to promote games like Ratchet and Clank or Little Big Planet.

I just got a Wii for Christmas, the only two games I have played are No More Heroes and Mario Galaxy, both of which I love...I plan on getting Smash Brothers and Zelda soon.

I do believe the Wii system itself has outsold both the PS3 and 360 this season...and I think they would need less third party games because they own the biggest names in video gaming, when you have Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, and many others under your belt I am pretty sure that would sell more than enough systems. All in all I think the Wii is a great system, the gamecube was good but I prefer the Wii.

Brawl, the game everyone with a Wii should own. No excuses.

Mario Galaxy was nothing short of brilliant. (Excusing bees and Spring Mario ... except that one splatter stage with Spring Mario was great)

No More Heroes was wonderful, and wouldn't have been the same experience on any other system. My hat's off to Suda51.

I want to see the Wii pushed to its limit, though.
I also need to try more non-franchise games for it.

On another note,

the only reason anyone ever complains about Wii is its apparent lack of graphical power in comparison to its peers. I do believe, and the evidence surfaces eventually in almost every conversation, that if it were graphically on the same level with the 360 and PS3, no one would say a thing.

But I don't care about graphical power. I care about art and style. Even if it does jade some people this generation, I'm glad that Nintendo is trying something new, even at the cost of other things.

Nintendo and Playstation have a near-equal amount of games I want for both pertaining to fun and style, and I don't care what they do, I'll never look badly on them. (Except back when Sony announced their apparent Wiimote knockoff. That was funny.)

There has to be a good reason, however, why I've invested so much money in the Wii (and DS) while continuing to lack a PS3 (and PSP).

Best Wii games?

I like Brawl, it's fun game, and it has a crazy amount of stuff in it. Doesn't hurt that there's Mario and Link running full blast at R.O.B while dodging lasers.

No More Heroes is just a ridiculous over-the-top game with colourful and loveable, quotable bosses (Destroy-beam anyone?) and a nunchuk input that actually worked for me. Damn, this is game is just so fun and entertaining to play.

Okami deserves a mention since it is one of the few ports that plays better than the original. The use of the Wiimote as the Celestial Brush is seamless and a delight to use. I actually can't believe how people could use it in the PS2 version.

I dunno. In this forum we mostly get complaints about the wii remote, and how it's not as precise as people had been led to believe it would be.

Hm, really? I've not really had issues with the Wii Remote. I heard it didn't control exactly how people expected it to in games like Okami and Red Steel, but in most cases control issues were negligible.

(Also, Okami wasn't ported with any help from its creators, which makes me sad... but I'm still gonna buy the Wii version eventually)

Well seems most of the best games have already been listed, obviously we all know Brawl was good as most of the Nintendo stuff was, so let's put a couple third party ones that were well done.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, I have played it on the Wii version and it was a fun experience, which is important to me.

Dragon Quest Swords is pretty fun as well, even if it plays more like a minigame then an RPG, I have gotten some fun out of it and I will finish it eventually.

I play games to have fun first and foremost, plot and gameplay are my big two with graphics being a rather low priority, if I can tell what I'm looking at, I'm fine.

There really is nothing wrong with the Wii as a console, it has it's problems (as all consoles do) but I don't regret my choice even a little. Plus the Xbox360 and PS3 simply don't have anything I want. Well at least nothing I can't get on PC later, here's looking at you Fable 2 and Overlord 2.

I have had no issues with the wii-mote either... well there was that time when the batteries were nearly dead but that's hardly Nintendo's fault, changing and charging the batteries is my job.

Whoot! We just hit fifty comics!

I bought a Wii back in summer of 2007. I've since gotten a PS3 and I play them both about equally. Usually now if I get a third party game it is the PS3 version, though. Nintendo does still create good titles, though. I've really enjoyed Brawl and Super Mario Galaxy. A lot of the party games are fun. Despite it's critical reaction, I kind of liked the Wii version of Worms. Sure, the system has its limits but it's still fun to me.
