I like all of Blizzard's cinematic intros & cutscenes for Warcraft and WoW. I am hoping beyond hope that the 2009 Warcraft movie will be similar in quality to their cinematics.

You can buy a DVD of their cinematic intros & cutscenes, including Diablo & Starcraft, here . It's well worth the price.

Very good intros there mlai.

Lastcall: I also am a big fan of blizzard videos. One of my favorite is Tassadars sacrifice at the end of Starcraft.

This one is pretty good too.
Those were my two cents.

I know this one's kind of a generic answer, but I really dig the intro to Final Fantasy 8

I think it's mostly the song. Funny, too, because 8 is probably my least-favorite FF game. All the older Final Fantasys that I didn't really care for I could more or less excuse because of their age, but 8 just didn't sit so well with me. Not to say that it's bad by any means, just not the one I enjoyed playing as much as the others.

I have no idea, honestly. I've never payed much attention to the intros.

And what's wrong with the older FF games Inky? If I had to pick a favorite, it'd probably be the first one...

Though I admit that of the 2D ones, I haven't played any but 1 and 2.

Half-Life. Think about it, you are on a tram ride into the Black Mesa complex, watching the scientists doing their work, walking back and forth and seeing everything as a spectator. You never see yourself, because in this game you are Gordon Freeman.

I think the Half-Life intro really got me into the game right away, showing me what story-telling approach it would use throughout.
A Roll of the Dice now with full-size pages!

John Clyde now with ten times the tacky Hawaiian shirts!

I agree with the FF8 and Half-Life intros. They were really nice.

The prologue in Valkyrie Profile was pretty good, although it's never mentioned again unless you perform a series of ridiculously vague actions at ridiculously vague times in the game.

Oh, yeah. And the intro for the original Resident Evil. :)

Intro to Shadow of the Colossus. Very sedate, contrary to most intros nowadays which seek to emulate movie-trailers and music-videos. Still gives me the chills 2/3 of the way thru.

I've got a sentimental weakness for the opening of FFIX - it manages to capture the dreamy, fairytale-adventure-y feeling of the whole game, and the colour palette is just gorgeous.

Reminds me of Shrek... xD

And... doves with hawk cries??? Whoever did the sounds must live in his basement... never been to the beach in his life, ever. And... DOVES?? But other than that, very nice panoramic shots.

The doves are a bit... yeah. Symbolic of innocence and peace and all that, but they don't really sound like doves. They're also shaped like pears covered in feathers, but it's not them I'm really paying attention to. XD

Of course, the video I linked is only half of what I consider to be the intro of FFIX - it's not until the theatre ship flies in over the city and approaches the castle that you get the actual title screen, and in my mind, that's where the intro ends. I just couldn't find the video (did only a cursory search on Youtube).

Pokemon Colosseum: Because thievery, massive explosions, and kick-ass motorcycles are the last thing you'd expect at the beginning of a pokemon game.

Resident Evil for Gamecube: That body, rising from the death shroud game me the willies. They then proceed to show the original intro the way it was MEANT to be done.

Some that comes to mind, in no particular order:
Banjo-kazooie and the sequel
Little big adventure
Pandemonium 1 and 2
Wario ware and world
Ocarina of time

And SMB3 and SM64 for nostalgia.

In terms of anime intro to a video game... I'm not sure if anything beats this. At least, I can't remember any that can.

Also although I'm not a fan Kingdom Hearts.

One thing I'd really like to see come out of Brawl is a complete soundtrack. If nothing else, I'd definitely be willing to import one. While some of the remixes aren't so hot, they do have some great classic music in there mixed in with some more modern game music and the game does seem to have full versions of Sonic Boom, Live and Learn, and Open Your Heart (along with the Heroes theme, but I'm not as interested in that).

Custom Robo Intro (for the Nintendo Gamecube)

It's funny because what's seen in the intro is nothing like how the game really is.
