Since Beowulf brought a little more light to the underappreciated all-CGI movie genre, wondered what everyone's fave non-Pixar/non-Shrek animated computer generated film was. BTW, Tron doesn't count!

There are non-existant. Even the "shrek" (more like dreamworks) and "pixar" ones are awful vehicles for cartoon characters with celebrity voices, doing nothing new. They use the same basic setup/plot structure every time over in pixar. A lot of times they use generic ideas or things like Chicken Little or the fantastic four.

I don't think anyone has done anything like the sales goblin before.

If anything, all-CGI movies are OVERappreciated.

Well I just got FF7: Advent Children yesterday on UMD for $4. I like that.

That counts, right?

Visually, I'd say Renaissance. Unfortunately, I've yet to see anything that has a really good story to go with the visuals. And that includes Beowulf.

I can't think of any decent films, but there was a series called Tripping The Rift that was pretty good.
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

I just saw Incredibles on Thursday and I gotta say it was friggin' awesome.

That's because the creators don't let the fact that it's a CG movie sidetrack them from making a good movie.

And that's why to original poster's question misses the mark.

But I was gonna say that!

OK, I gotta say, Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within is a damn good movie. I don't care what anyone says.

Incredibles is still my favorite movie ever. Marine downplays Pixar's story structure, but I think they know how to tell a story quite well. And that makes it hard for me to choose a non-Pixar movie for this thread. What am I going to pick? Madagascar? Happy Feet? No thanks.

The Incredibles doesn't really stick to Pixar's story structure. Most of Pixar's movies are poducts of John Lasseter and Pete Docter. The Incredibles and Ratatouille kind of stray from Pixar's in house approach in that they are both Brad Bird films and he has a bit of a different idea of what makes good family entertainment.

Saw that last week myself (thank you, Netflix) and I agree it's a good movie. Some of its premise is messed up (how do you destroy a ghost with biological energy?) and a portion of it was predictable but the overall implementation, story and acting were excellent.

I gotta agree with fern.
FF7 Advent Children was pretty sweet.
So was Spirits Within...only problem...too short.

I was never that impressed with FF7 I thought the story was crap sure it looked pretty but that's it. As for a good CGI movie is Antz. It was really mature the only problem I h kept thinking that Woody Allen was going to start hitting on his daughters after he knocks up the princess.

How many CGI movies do they have to make about bugs? You got Antz, Ant Bully(no relation?), Bug's Life, and now Bee Movie. What's next, Roach Motel?

I'm waiting for the Warcraft feature film: http://imdb.com/title/tt0803096/ . I've heard rumors that it's coming, but no real solid announcements from Blizzard (oh, sorry--"Activision Blizzard" ) ;). ....And they better make it CGI, like their incredible in-game cinematics. If they make it live-action, I will cry.
