Best Movie Ever

Choose as many as you like, but try to give a reason. or two

At the moment I'm thinking "Das Boot" (director's cut, in German)
1). It's got a very cool title.
2). Jurgen Prochnow is groovy.
3). Best action film ever.
4). It's 3 and a half hours long but seems to go for only 30 minutes! -how many 3 and a half hour long films can claim that????

(Again, only the German version, dubbing is EVIL)

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker.

I mean really, no contest.

If they made a movie where Darth Vader and vin diesel Battled Sauron and optimus prime for control of the multiverse then that would be it.

as nobody has ever made such a movie the best movie ever is open to dispute.

The Blues Brothers. It's got music, it's got comedy, it's got a cavalcade of stars, it's got a whole lot of car chases and stuff exploding... what more could you want? Sure, it's not the best-looking or most mentally wrenching movie out there (in my opinion, those titles go to Mirrormask and Brazil, respectively), but it certainly is the most accessible. Plus it just oozes coolness from every pore.

Talk about your obscure arthouse flicks all you want, but I dare anyone to mention a movie more universally enjoyed than Blues Brothers.

PS: Forget Blues Brothers 2000, though. That was just pathetic.

I haven't seen a movie yet that just screams "best ever" to me. There's a lot out there I really like, though, so I'll list the top five of my favorites.

The Truman Show - This one made me think differently about the world around me without scaring me. The funny thing is, I don't like reality shows.

The Sting - I'm not sure what I like so much about this one. The atmosphere is neat, and I'm a sucker for big twists. I really liked the characters, too, I don't find that too often in new movies.

The Natural - Whoa, atmosphere. I liked this one because I grew up on baseball, and this is just a classic "magical baseball" movie. I read a lot of reviews complaining that the ending goes in the opposite direction of the book it was based on, but I think if it had gone the book's way, the whole movie would have fallen apart. I feel uplifted when this movie ends.

Toy Story - The story was such a neat idea. It's funny and well-animated.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit - This is one of the only movies I adored when I was a kid, and now that I'm older it's actually funnier. I'm still watching this movie wondering how they did all the cartoon-actor interaction effects -

My favourite is Master & Commander. I guess it's a combination of my love of Darwin's theories, the Galapagos islands, classical music and hot boys on boats that really made it for me.

Other than that, I liked Face/Off, Police Story 4, The Closet and Kung Fu Hustle. I've also got a soft spot for all Jet Li films - I love the romance in those stories!

Oooooh Kung Fu Hustle. Yeah, that and Shaolin Soccer were great. Had a lot of the same actors, too. I guess Stephen Chow just likes them. :D

Yeah, those two rocked.

I can`t say that they are the best ever. But, hell. They are fucking good.

A Clockwork Orange - ultraviolence and everything in between
The Shining - a dad and family with a creepy hotel, too hard to describe it`s memorable moments
Pink Floyd`s The Wall - the story of one man`s wall.
Fight Club - quite possibly the best twist ever
Blade Runner - cyberpunk at it`s best
True Lies - the best action movie that`s better than anything that was made after.
The Matrix - computers, machines, a dark story of where nothing is what it seems, before it all went to hell

Ah, the Matrix. First one was amazing. Second good. Third...well, let's just say, not so good...

For me it's the BoonDock Saints.

No Tater, the other Crash, the one about racism and how it affects others.

I was waiting for someone to start this thread. I wasn't brave enough to do it myself, but I wanted to see it up. Thanks for being psycic and cool, Ozone!

Anyways... I'd have to say... and get ready to slap me... Shaun of the Dead. But it makes sense (if you're me). Before I ever saw that movie I peed my pants when zombie shows came on. I mean, I was afraid of 28 Days Later. Pfft! The comedy cured me! That's a plus! But that's slightly off my original subject. Think of all the things this movie has to offer... Comedy, Romance, Horror, Suspense, British People, Drugs, Comic strips in the DVD extras, British People, Cars Hitting Pedestrians, Zombies, the use of the word F**k 72 times (Or was it 82? Or 88?! I don't remember!), and Simon Pegg. Seriously, I mean, you can trick ANYONE into watching it. Trick your girlfried by saying you're going to watch a romance, trick that squeemish kid by saying you're watching a comedy, trick the druggy down the hall into thinking you're watching GTA The Movie! It's like sushi: All sorts of crazy things get wrapped up together and it turns out they're pretty tasty.


But the movies all you guys suggested were pretty great too. At least the small fraction that I recognized (The Goonies, Ghostbusters, Lost Boys, The Matrix) were at least. Some of the other ones sound like they're rent worthy at least, maybe I'll check 'em out. :D

I have a passion for all superhero movies, even creepy ones like "Sky High". However, I don't have one favorite. I have high hopes for X-3, though.

Man, people have said a lot of good ones... Blues Brothers, The Truman Show, Little Shop, The Goonies...

I can't really think of a movie that I've really truly thought was a great movie lately, and I can't think of anything else.... :roll:

The Life Aquatic. That was just such a fun movie. A real plesure to watch, every single part of it... There wasn't a bit that dissapointed me.

Though I'm a huge fan of MST3K (in case you haven't guessed by now ), I've gotta say that MST3K: The Movie was basically a TV episode of MST3K, but with marginally more profanity and a lack of time constrictions or post-commercial break skits (and I like the post-commercial break skits!). Not that I'm badmouthing it, it's just that it wasn't really a movie so much as a way to expose more people to an innovative and hilarious TV show.

I can't believe I forgot about Shaun of the Dead. What an idiot. XD It's definitely a fight between that and Ghostbusters... I think Ghostbusters wins by a wee smidgen. But that's a real wwweeeee smidgen!

I've got to see more films. I've got to see Taxi Driver, I've wanted to see that for years.

To me, it would have to be the Chronicles of Narnia. I've never seen cgi so wonderfully done as I have in this movie. It was phenomenal! Especially how they designed the centaurs, gryphons and Aslan himself! Great flick gotta see it!

I saw in in an out door cinema a couple of years ago on a nice warm night while eating a lovely home made pizza, (that hightened the whole experience). A very magical fantasy film with a nice little touch of reality and a good solid little moral.
