Best And Worst PSP Games Ever?
Walrus
at 5:31PM, Dec. 3, 2008
I just recently bought a PSP, and was wondering what you think is the best and worst PSP games ever. I only have four, (games) but in my opinion, Monster Hunter Freedom is the absolute worst game I've ever played. It's incredibly boring, if you're thinking of buying it, don't! As for the best, I would have to say Smackdown vs. Raw 2009.

I didn't actually play many PSP games back when I had one (I sold it largely due to a lack of games on it that I wanted to play, and only rarely do I regret that decision).
Anyway, the worst game I played was whatever they called the version of Dynasty Warriors it launched with. The best game from that period was Lumines. Beyond that I have no idea.

The best would be the Medievil remake, the worse is Legends Untold (I think that's what it's called, anyway), which was 'wander around, kill monsters, get armour'. Usually the enemies were just tougher versions of ones you faced already.
Keep in mind that I have only played three PSP games, ever. I completely forgot what the other one was called. I'm pretty sure the justice was in it somewhere.

The PSP has terrible games, I keep hoping they will come out with something good but they've had 4 years now. So 'the worst' is hard to choose.
The best I guess might be Dead Head Fred. It was fun and had Dr. Cox, lots of exploration and mini-missions to do. Pirates was all right but got repetetive after a while. Most of the PSP games that aren't bad are only passable. Katamari was pretty good but small, and um... oh, Loco Roco was pretty good!

I love the hell out of Untold Legends AND both of the Monster Hunter Freedom games (It's the most popular PSP series in Japan, so Aza agrees). In fact the only problem I ever had with it was the gigantic learning curve (Game went straight from "Oh I'm killing little raptors and deer" to "ZOMG GIGANTIC FUCKING DRAGON SPITTING FIRBALLS AT MY FACE").
Chains of Olympus, Disgaea, War of the Lions...
Where the hell are people getting that the PSP has no good games? :/
In fact, I can't think of a PSP game I DIDN'T at least enjoy to some degree, and I own about 10 myself. Worst I played was... Coded Arms I think? And I still had fun with it, even if it WAS an overly-simplified shooter.

Yes I know that this game is retarded. It's also fun for some retarded reason.
This one is less retarded, but it's mostly just fun for the trolling

Shut up.
Stop saying "ZOMG SONY FANBOI", I didn't even own a Sony console until late last gen, and I preferred Nintendo until this one.
I don't understand how people say it has no good games when it simply doesn't.

Nintendo has been dishing out crap lately, Cooking Mama 32 or something like that. Sony's games are much better now.

I obtained a PSP not too far back with Final Fantasy Crisis Core. I was really looking forward to the game. I put it in, and I hate it. It's downright terrible. The only thing that keeps you playing is the vague hope something interesting involving the plot of FF7 will come along. It doesn't. All you get is an incredibly confusing and lame storyline involving clones and betrayal. Or did he betray me? I don't even damn well know, nor do I care. The characters suck, the story sucks, the battle system is absolutely dire. If it weren't for the game occasionally referencing to FF7 it would have been in my bin long ago. If this game didn't have any ties to the Final Fantasy series, you'd vomit all over it.
Sorry to start a rant, but based on the expectation to delivery factor I have to say it's the worst game on the PSP. What a waste of money that PSP was. I don't even want to buy more games for it after seeing just a few. (Dynasty Warriors...ouch is all I can say.)
So yeah, PSP's are not good. Unless Medieval is any good?

Where the hell are people getting that the PSP has no good games? :/
It depends on the kind of games you like. I don't like racing games, fighting games, or RPGs (and with strategy games, I'm picky). I tend to like the more unusual quirky games, or games that aren't games like picross or crosswords. So the DS has a slew of games I really like (point and click, mental/word games, pick up and play for 10 minutes, platformers) and PSP just doesn't have many of those. The ones that would otherwise be appealing have control or difficulty problems like Death Jr or Medievil. And because the PSP's thumbstick is awkward, I tend to get cross-platform games on the DS.
I do have some PSP games but I end up only getting about two a year. This year it was Silent Hill (which was lacklustre, but allright for a silent hill fix) and Hellboy, which I haven't even tried playing yet (I've had it since August) because I have DS games I'd rather play like Harvest Moon or Lego Batman :)
I love the PSP, I bought it in its early days and wanted to like it. I think it's a lovely design and a superior bit of technology- but I'm not interested in UMDs and most of the games just don't interest me. So although my DS has low resolution and the hinge is about to break off (blu-tac is saving it), it's become my favorite. Considering the scorn I had for the DSes before Lite came out and I got one, I guess that makes me a convert.
I'm still holding out hope. I think if Sony puts out more PS1 games for download, I could get back into it. There's a number of PS1 games I'd happily pay for and re-play if I could do it on the PSP. They don't seem to be very interested in that market though. They've only got about 20 games available (legally) and only a couple are what I would call classics. I wonder if there are licensing issues or whether it's just not worth their time to convert them.
But yeah, Dead Head Fred is pretty awesome. (And Katamari and Loco Roco)

I don't know exactly what the problem is, but I agree that it is unfortunate that Sony seems to be ignoring the Western market on the classic gaming front. They have no problems delivering in Japan.
So yeah, PSP's are not good.
So, you've played two games and that makes the whole system and its library worthless? So I should be justified in judging the 360 entirely on Kengo and Vampire Rain, then, right?

Anyone who says there aren't good games on the PSP hasn't even tried looking. I don't own one, but I can tell you right now there are PSP games I'd love to try out. Sure, some of the PSP's best games came from the PS2, but that doesn't mean they're not good games.
I've heard that Rengoku is particularly awful if you're looking for its worst games.

Worst PSP game I've played? MSG Plus. I mean... it seemed to be nothing more than a series of missions you had to get through.
The best PSP games in my opinion are Hot Shots Golf, I and II. Then again, golf my favorite sports games out there and Hots Shots is not too serious to play. :)

Now thats not very nice I'm sure the people who made those games worked very hard.
My ass did they.
I was tired when I wrote that so I was probably just getting peeved at Sony for making me waste my money on a console I only wanted for a game which turned out to be garbage. The PSP itself isn't bad, it's just the games don't seem to be worth buying. I've played several games and none of them have impressed me. But like I said, there are probably good games, I just haven't seen them.
Does anyone else have dead pixels? They seem to be fairly common around people that I know, which is really quite annoying. And I also don't like it how Playstation essentials are always sold seperate. When I got a PSP bundle pack how was I supposed to know I wouldn't even to be able to save my game? The PS3 doesn't even come with a HD cable, you have to buy it seperate.

GTA was good if you don't mind playing the same game on a smaller screen, which I guess is fine for car journeys and the like. A bit pointless if you are sitting in your front room, but at least it runs nicely. The PSP does have some power. (The clips in that Final Fantasy game were really good quality.)
...unlike the game.

Great for a quick sneak around. Bad game though.
Not quite worst but it's kinda headed that way.

Dead pixels are relatively common with the earlier PSPs. I can't remember what their threshold was for return/replacement, but even one is annoying on such a small screen. I've got one dead pixel that annoyed me all the way through the otherwise dark Silent Hill.
About saving- your PSP ought to have come with at least a 128 or 256 kb pro duo stick? You can get a 2gb for like twenty bucks now anyway...
Anyway, bad games... well, Death Jr had problems. It had a cute theme and was kind of fun, but the difficulty ramped up pretty early and I had a lot of camera/control problems.
I would have liked Patapon but I'm bad at rhythm games and failed miserably at the easy demo I downloaded. :[
Daxter was actually pretty good, if you like platformers then give it a try. I think it can be got pretty cheaply now.
I just found out there is a Loco Roco 2! I've already bought my christmas presents to myself though... birthday maybe :)

Originally it was something similar to the DS of over 4 pixels, but about a week or two after launch, Sony made a statement that they would be willing to replace or repair any system with any number of dead pixels as long as it was within warranty and at least two weeks after purchase.

I think you mean movie video games, and even then, there are actually quite a few which weren't all that bad. Riddick, the Lord of the Rings games, the Hulk, just to name a few.

I had a PSP a while ago (before I traded it for a DS) and I was all pumped for the fighting games.
I had that Darkstalkers anthology and Steetfighter alpha 3, and they were both UNPLAYABLE because of the shitty psp directional pad
I highly recommend that megaman X remake though.
