Best Ads and Tag Lines

I don't know about anyone else but finding the one sentence I can leave somewhere to get people to read my comic is always a struggle. Likewise the right tone for ads is always something I have to consider carefully. I don't want to end up like the Evony ads where they have to explain in the FAQ they just used that ad to lure you in and it has nothing to do with the site. X_X

So I was wondering what are some of the best tag lines and ads you've seen?

I'll start:

Ad

Looking for Group: "The Orphanage Attacked Me First" ad with a warlock in front of a burning orphanage. I'm not a big fan of LfG now that I've actually read but when I saw this ad I had to find out more. It was just funny enough to get me to click on it.

I rarely click ads at all. But if I do it's because it has good coloring and looks actiony. Something with any of the following can grab my eye. Martial arts, womenz, cool special effects with magic or chi, womenz, stylized art that isn't too realistic yet not completely wacky either, free <- (in my future ads I need to put something that mentions it's free, for real!, I hate getting lured to sites with nice looking comics and I have to PAY for them! Cause I'm totally not going to do it), oh and before I forget ~ womenz =p

As for tag lines... I don't think a single phrase has ever got me to look at a comic. I like witty lines, but I normally don't look at comics just for jokes and witty dialogue. Now if you have a hot witty ninja chick blowing up samurai cyborgs with her mystical darkworld blade while she's saying something funny/witty that might work on me XD

For your comic I'd focus on the fantasy and science theme. Maybe make a variety of ads for promoting the comedic side, more serious side, and a mix.

For the tower ad I'd definitely do a mix. Showing Riddly and Cwen all serious while maybe using Trel for the comic relief aspect. I'm not sure what your target audience is actually. I like the story aspects of your comic more than the comedy. Though the comedy is a fundamental part of it, I wouldn't know if you should promote it as such or not. I think you could appeal to both demographics.

I've probably clicked maybe 20 ads ever though so I may not be the best to listen to here :3

Read "The Devon Legacy".

I agree. It is hard to find that one thing that sums up you comic AND makes people want to read it.

I have clicked through a lot of fabulous comic ads only to be disapointed by its content (or lack there of). There are some really good ones. I keep searching for that perfect combo of art and tagline. It is elusive.

American007 has a really nice ad. It draws the random viewer in.

Chronicles of Wyrden is simple, but the flowing script and border breaking elegance of it drive curiosity.

It depends how you wanna come across.

So far, I've got some serious and humorous taglines for my comic.

Serious
- In a world filled with hate, being alone doesn't always have to suck.
- living alone... in this hateful world.
- Sa mundong mapang-api. Mahirap kung ikaw lang MAG-ISA. (In this oppressive world, it sucks if you're just by yourself) (trust me. it sounds better in Tagalog)
- Alone... in this Brave New World. How beauteous mankind is!
- (*insert random quote from famous person here. Preferrably somebody who is a known historical badguy like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, or anyone who worked for them*)
- (*insert random quote from the bible here*)

Then, there has to be an image of Eman looking down and really sad... or any one of the characters I have in the cast (preferrably Lucia or Claudita) looking really serious and ready to kick some butt. Then the background colors and shades are darker and of a heavier tone.

Humorous
- A comic about a loner, an angel, and a cult that's crazier than michael jackson
- What happens if you have a loner, an angel, and a ninja catholic priest on the same team?

Then it has to be all light and bubbly and a chibified or sprite-ified version of my characters.
NOW UPDATING!!!

One time, I caught an ad on the Comics Curmudgeon for a then fairly new comic called "Sandra and Woo". The tagline was exactly: a webcomic about friendship, life, and the art of (not) eating squirrels. Plus, the ad featured random violence. I've been a fan ever since.

I know that it is a bit off subject to talk about my comic specifically but thanks for the feedback. I really didn't think anyone was reading Cwen's Quest for the plot.

@Loud_G: Hmm I haven't seen either of those ads. I'll have to look out for them to see what you mean.

@kyupol: I see, I see. Thanks.

@PIT_FACE: Yea seriously. They seem like something people would put together on a sitcom. People seriously think I am full of it when I tell people about them.

@elektro: I think I know the ones you are talking about. Was it animated or something what with the random violence aspect?
