This game looks pretty good. I might add this to my list of games.

Magic vol. 2 returns this week!

Oh and I forgot to mention that I'm moving to theotaku.com this Feb.

I like how the animated scenes are stylized and trippy, but the actual gameplay footage is generic at best.

I'm sure the gameplay will be better when the game is released this February.

Interesting. I might pick it up eventually.

Too many other great games I want right now to make it high-priority right now though.

I'd have to agree with Inkmonkey here. The cutscenes look interesting, but trailers are supposed to show the best elements of the game to get potential buyers excited and the gameplay here just doesn't look that interesting.

IMO I kind of thought Atlus was crappy to begin with.

wait what

Seriously, Atlus has been pretty kick-ass really, considering they're the guys who published stuff like Odin Sphere (which is fucking awesome) and Disgaea (the original).

how can you think that they're crappy D:

Well first is the Touch Detective game it was fun at first but then it got very boring after a while and became insanly difficult.

Then there was Luminous Arc. It had great charecters, story, and gameplay but it just didn't feel like an RPG. First of all you couldn't even wander around towns and you were always assulted everytime you visited a certain town. Lastly you had no freedom to wander around the map at all you had to follow only ONE PATH except if you are going into a secret dungeon even the cutscenes weren't all that great.

And finally there is Shin Megamei Tensei: Persona 3. Sure it had a great storyline and very interactive gameplay such as chatting online with your friends or taking a test. But the biggest letdown was the repetetive gameplay. First you shoot yourself in the head with a magic gun then you realease you persona which then attacks your enemy it seems original at first but after doing it the 50th time it will get annoying.

So in my opinion none of their games are worth a dime let alone 32-50 dollars.

... You didn't even mention Odin Sphere nor Disgaea in that post. D:<

Also, the battle system in Persona 3 is awesome what are you talking about repetitive pfft

... OK yeah it is a bit repetitive but I dare you to find me one turn-based RPG that doesn't have a repetitive battle system. :/

Well Disgaea is a good game but Odin Sphere really didn't seem that good.

Also I think Blue Dragon is one that is not repetitive.

Well Disgaea is a good game but Odin Sphere really didn't seem that good.

You can plant seeds in order to grow plants that can grow fruit that also have the ability to heal your HP and heighten your experience. Also, alchemy. Oh and the game is incredibly gorgeous and hardly ever slows down and the gameplay is kick-ass too because it is like a brawler with RPG elements and also has a dual-language option so you can choose Japanese voices(which are awesome) and OH GOD FAN-GASM

seriously how could you not think that's awesome

genstru

Yeah, but Blue Dragon isn't that great anyway. :/

Actually I just don't like side scrollers that much.

Sure maybe Blue Dragon was a bit cliche but had great gameplay they're even making a Blue Dragon 2. :)

Anyways Baroque looks like a decent game but I'm getting a bit suspicious about the gameplay, hopfully it won't suck.

I don't ever remember playing a game by Atlus, though all the ones I've seen or heard about make me want to cry from not having them.

This one actually looks like the kind of game that you can get into, but forget about later. Not a super-awesome ultragame, but still the kind of game that you can enjoy.

So yeah, I might pick it up when it's sitting in the bargain bin. It's not too high on my list of game to get right now though.

Did you play Blue Dragon? It's about as repetitive as they come. Every battle, regardless of the enemy you're facing plays out pretty much the same. That was one of my biggest problems with the game. Sure it's oldschool, but that doesn't mean the battle system has to be boring.

As for Atlus games, SkyGunner was the greatest thing since sliced cheese. Realistically, though, many of the games they bring out over here, they're just publishing for small developers in Japan. Even Barouque is really developed by Sting (who used to publish through Square before they went totally independent in Japan). Their most recent games were Riviera (originally for the Wonderswan Color, but ported to both the GBA and PSP) and Yggdra Union (originally on GBA, but is being ported to PSP), both of which were outstanding games that went way under the radar. They have also made some generic looking PS2 games and Barouque looks to follow that trend more than their more original handheld entries.

Yeah I played Blue Dragon before I got to the part where you fight those three boss robots.

Although I never played skygunner before but it's a shame I'm not into flight similators that much it looks like a good game.

Anyway we should end this argument about Atlus games I may hate the company but there are a few games that they made which I actually might like such as Shin Megami Tensei and along with Growlanser.

Also did I mention this game comes out in February?

Your feelings about Atlus as a game developer don't really matter much where Baroque is concerned, anyway. Atlus didn't make the game, they're only publishing the US release. It's basically the same situation you had with the Irem, Vanilla Ware, Nippon Ichi and other Sting games. These companies just aren't big enough to handle multinational releases.

Has anyone here ever played the Japanese version of the game?

YES! The site has been updated finally!
