Normally I trust the opinions of reviewers, who have recntly labeled assassin's creed as a mediocre game, a dissapointment. I almost didn't get it because of that, but I did, and you know what? The game is awesome. Throwing people off cliffs and leaping from rooftops to off some gaurds is awesome.

Anyone else. Your thoughts?

I mostly play games for a good story and Assassin's Creed's story just BLEW. I was completely uninterested in it and as for gameplay it was alright, but not great. It seemed more or less like a less showy Prince of Persian and really the combat system was just counter kills since nothing else really mattered after you got them. Why fight when you can just counter kill to perfect effect? And the dialogue was off alot and the voice acting was just plain bad on many instances. Why does Altair sound so American!? Everyone else has an accent, but Altair had NONE. It really was a let down. If I wanted mindless killing I'd play GTA and if I wanted killing with style I'd play DMC.

Funny you said the story was bleh, Sidwarrious. If you had followed it you would have learned Altair's voice is american ON PURPOSE.

I don't own the game. I just watched it played all the way through and played the first several hours myself. I don't remember them explaining and just because they might explain his voice the voice acting still wasn't GOOD now was it?

Voice acting is rarely good in games. Hell, as much as I loved Oblivion, the voice acting in that game was complete shit.

And anyway, a lot of reviewers gave Assassin's Creed good scores. I saw a 5/5 on one place, though I can't remember where it was. Most of the rest of what I saw was around 9/10 or so.

So yeah, most reviewers thought it was pretty good.

Alot of games have good voice acting. Most often RPGs. And if the acting isn't good in an rpg it's usually hysterically bad. Bobobo on Tales of Legendia?

and I can't find the Altair american voice anywhere. Other then his mother was christian his fahter was still muslim and he was still raised out there in "The Bad Places".

I know that. But if my ancestors are british they would have british accents. Descendants not equal voices. If so we'd have to kill off Fran Drescher's entire family so her voice isn't passed down. Rachel Ray too!

See though, what they're doing is using Altair's descendant's voice instead of Altair's own. I'm not sure why they would do that, but they did.

To make him more acceptable to an American audience. I didn't care for it. I wanted the middle eastern assassin, not the American assassin.

But obviously I'm not much of a fan. It was fun for like an hour so it's on pair with a good flash game.

I wouldn't call that a spoiler. you learn that really before you even start playing as Altair.

I thought it sounded interesting. Not to mention that it's not really that crazy of an idea. I've seen similar ones before.

But you should probably wait until someone who's played and beaten the game comes on. They can tell you about it better than I can.

I was there as it was beaten. Me and a friend took turns playing it and wen throguh the entire game. But I played like the first half and watched as he beat the second.

I find I can't stand the voice acting in most RPGs. Unless a game was made with English voices in mind, it usually doesn't turn out sounding very good. There seem to be a couple of different stables of actors game companies use. Unfortunately, they tend to be the same stables animation companies use (i.e. low-budget unionized anime actors for Japanese games and higher-budget independent actors or Hollywood actors for domestically developed games).

I personally like Lowenthal and Bosch and think they do fantastic work. And like I said it's either really good or hilariously bad.

I think there are a few cases where bad voice acting really starts to work with the game... House of the Dead is one of them. It completes the B-Movie experience.

Or Resident Evil? Really made the bad zombie movie feel worth it. And I still laugh about it years later.

If you're talking the original, they were the 80's group. You didn't really start to see the anime dubbers unions pop up until the early 90's. Before then, there seemed to be a stock of voice actors that appeared in just about everything, anime or domestic, and the quality of voice acting was heavily dependent on the direction.

I've been a Resi fan since the days before the first directors cut, when I was a wee lad and I can say this wholeheartedly "I don't ever want them to change the bad localization". I LOVE it. It makes the experience better for me. I don't get scared b anything horror, haunted houses, horror movies. I may jump sometimes when something JUMPS out at you but that's not really fear and so to me the games are bettered by it.

But I'm weird.

With the direction Res Evil is moving, it's apparent they want to move away from schlock horror. When that RE-in-Africa hits the shelves, I certainly hope I won't be laughing at poor dialogue.

The poor dialog is more than likely due to the original writing for the Japanese games. The later games tend to be in English from the getgo and they don't change the dubbing between the Japanese and American versions. So the reason the dialog is so poor, is likely because you have Japanese writers trying to script English dialog.
