are any of your characters based off of you?

When my mom watched my "Ask Jack" animation, she said Jack reminded her of me. *shrug* I didn't intentially base any characters off me though...

I base all my characters off of some facet of me. I mean, I couldn't write them if they're not part of me. But as for basing off of any in a completely blatant way, no.
But heck, what do I know about characterization?

Considering that my comic is autobiographical and everyone in it is real, yes, the Suzi character is based off me. However...having had to reduce myself and my friends to caricatures for over a year now, they have focused and molded themselves into specific traits that may not necessarily be a direct, entirely fair or valid representation of the real person.

My character Barney Duck has been with me since junior high, and I used him in my high school newspaper comic strip back in the eighties. Back then he was a reflection of what I thought and felt, in a way he spoke for me when I was too shy to do it myself. When I decided to used him for No Parking in 2006, I kept him the same, if not a bit more of a militant anarchist, which I am not (being a married father of two has mellowed me). Still, I find myself writing rants for him and thinking "Heck, I agree with this, but would never say it!"
One character, Penny, slowly evolved over time (she acts and looks much different than she did when I first introduced her). A few months after I started to put her in I got an email from a friend I hadn't heard of in years. He said he found the comic and wanted to write me and thank me for putting in a character in rememberance of our friend Meaghan, who had passed away from cancer about a year and a half before. Now I never intentionally made Penny like Meaghan, but going over some old comics I can see her evolve into her. I guess without thinking about it I put a little of Meaghan into Penny.

In "Slice of Life", most of the characters are based off me, my girlfriend, or other friends that want to be featured in the comic.
That way, everything seems more believable, I guess. *shrug*

Only in other works are characters based off of me. My Juno and I have some similarities but she's more like an alter-ego for me than anything. Oddly I created her and over the years have become more and more like her - which isn't a good thing in the end. ;) I have more of my friends in SCD than me. Which is going to suck a little when I kill them. But the two main characters are figments of my imagination.

My main character is me.... just younger and skinier..oh and way more violent.
The people are based on people I know, people from history, people from fairytales, people from bibles, the people in my head (scary no?), etc.
Story wise...they are all inspired by actual events in real life as I see them in my mind, things I wish I could do, thoughts that pop up in my head.

I didn't intend for it to turn out that way, but Lexie - one of the main characters from my comic - is more or less me, only less bookish. She's more of a practical thinker than I am, and tends to take the backseat to anyone else, simply because she doesn't want all that much attention.
She looks a bit like me, too, only she's taller.
All my characters are, in some way, based on me (with the exception of the main villain, who is a frothing bag of issues, and hasn't shown up "on-screen" yet). Some more than others. I've tried hard to make sure that none of them are actual copies of me. Lexie is the closest I've gotten, and she still thinks in patterns very different from mine.

yeah. Redd was based off me. He's a cool teenage kid.
I'm old now. lol
...But his flashbacks will be based on my real life experiences.
well, they will be based off them.

Several of my main characters(still yet to appear), are in some ways based off of me. These are pretty subtle similarities, though.
It could be like half of my personality makes up a whole personality of one of my characters, or an exxageration of my hairstyle is used, sometimes they'll share my favorite food and such, but they also have things I am not. (Like liking foods I hate or having phobias that are bizarre to me)
Oh, but I can plainly say that I do not dress or completly act like any of them, thank god. XD

Guy from A Jagged Mind is based on my inner monologue. What happens in the comics will either have actually happened to me, or happen to a friend of mine, and Guy reacts how I would want to react, but politeness says otherwise.

I have plans to make a "likeness" of my appearing cameo on my comics though

None of the characters in my comic were intended to be based off anyone, but I did borrow names from people I know, including myself. Because of that, my friends decided to try and match characters to people -- it didn't work so well until they started trying to match the characters whose names I'd actually made up to real people. I guess if you look hard enough and know enough people, you can find similarities to someone real in any character. Maybe.

My Character Design teacher told my class that when you're a bad character designer, all your characters end up being like you. This probably stems from not being able to step out of your own mindset to see things from a different view. So I guess the better you get at creating characters, the more varied and different they become.
In my current comic, none of my characters are based off of me. But one of them keeps showing traits that remind me of me. I'm not sure I like it, though I do enjoy the character a lot.

Not as much with my current comic, Zorphbert & Fred. They're extreme personalities, and I'm pretty balanced. But in my old comic, "Leftovers" all the characters had pieces of me added in their "construction". I looked & acted like the tomboy character Jen is HS (and still love sports to this day), I'm a computer (mac) fiend like the geek character Chris, I'm a people-pleaser like the cute-sy one Meg, and also a kid-at-heart like the slacker, Jeff. Toss in the artist and rebel characters, and you have me, in a nutshell.

None of the characters in HtbR are based off of me. If they were, I'd need serious counseling.
The first webcomic I did way back in the day had a main character loosly based off of me, but I was much younger and angstier then. :P

My main characters derive from a part of my personality. I do like a few others and take certain traits multiply, twist, alter, warp, and add to them.
Like Sally is actually quite a bit like me only I took the innocence part and multiplied it greatly. I am no where near as innocent as she is but we share a lot of views and interests.
Later there will be a character much more like me but still some things are tweaked, cause I'm pretty boring and have no powers =P
Also, making up the life the character had before we meet them re-influences the development and takes away from them being derived from me as much.

Interesting, if logical, question. ;)
None of our main Due East characters are exactly like me or my wife (or our kids)...but this is what I found upon reflecting briefly on the question:
1. Doug (the dad) is like my late father, even though he's Part-Chinese (and my dad's not), appearance-wise and personality-wise.
2. Brielle is a lot like me as a teenager.
3. Carolyn is loosely based on a friend of ours from church.
4. We totally made up Crystal (the mom). She's really not like either of us or anyone we know.
5. I think Sapphira is what would happen if you blended my wife's and my personalities into one.
