April 1st is tomorrow. It's a magical day where about 200 or so manga artists on smackjeeves slap up a filler announcing they quit hoping to be met with 45 teary emoticon comments from gullible fans only to abort after they lose 20 favs in an hour.

Anyways,
Have you ever fallen for an April fools comic? What ones do you generally dislike/or find clever?

I've fallen for
A few art style changes, one i find ironic is the webcomic SCSC switched to a more realistic art style as a joke...the style looked 20x better than the normal style.
http://scsc.smackjeeves.com/comics/340058/page-97/

Ones I like
I'm usually keenly aware when it's April 1st so any prank on that day is usually ruined for me, I generally like the ones that poke fun at other comics or incorporate an april fools gag into the comic

Ones I dislike:
The 'i'm quitting the comic ;[' ones.

I haven't actually had the courage to do my own yet though xP

The only times I've ever been "fooled" by an April Fool's comic is when I stumble onto it while reading through an archive an don't notice the date it was originally posted.

I'm contemplating redirecting my home page to another webcomic like PvP or something.

Last year I had a character imitate something from a Japanese rhythm game. The particular song is called the April Fools Song, so I figured it was quite appropriate (Click here for page in question) . In my opinion, I don't think I can top that other than drawing it cleaner.
That's "Dr. BlkKnight" to all of you.

I never even knew people did this. However, Im of 2 minds about this...

Its is okay when a comic that updates all the time does it. its easier to fall for it and its kind of a nice break in the flow. HOWEVER, if a comic that hasnt updated in a long time suddenly updates and its some stupid ass april fools nonsense, that pisses me off.

I really like that art style change one. thats clever. Its nice how he didnt go the usual route and do a shitty ass page, but he did a more detailed style.

I actually almost fell for one. The comic was fairly new and it was based off of copyrighted material.

(It is a screen capture comic made from still images out of the various Star Wars movies called Darths and Droids) http://www.darthsanddroids.net/ [darthsanddroids.net]

They normally posted a very nice comic from the movie shots, but that day (and I really didn't notice what day it was) they posted the comic with pictures of themselves acting out the parts instead of movie shots. At the bottom was a sincere apology explaining that they had just gotten a letter from LucasArts threatening to sue if they did not cease and desist.

It got me for about a minute, before I figured it out.

It was ingenious because it was plausible and not just a "I quit" message. :D

Here is the link: http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0082.html [darthsanddroids.net]

If you mouse over the comic image you will see the april fools comic.

I don't think I read any comics that have been as bold as to try that yet...

I've had a few ideas myself, but like you, I don't have the courage to do it. xD

Although... there's still time to try and fool people into thinking I'm turning my comic into a sprite comic. And making one or two can't take very long anyway.
By the time you finish this, you'll have read it. :3

I remember I got one over on my fans a while back when I made a pretty generic "April Fool's" comic (just two of the female characters making out, and acting otherwise out of character), then made the announcement that my comic was going to be moving to Keenspot. I even got one of the admins to make a newspost announcing it (explaining that I wasn't allowed to say anything until the end of the month).

...

Though now they've set up a policy where they won't post news on April 1. Er... sorry?

Lol inkmonkey

-----------

So this years most common prank is 'style change to furry', which i thought was beyond lame, but one of the ones i thought was brilliant was a reverse of that; http://endofthingscomic.com/
It's a furry comic that's using real people as a style change xP
Now, why aren’t the characters animals anymore? Well, I’m tired of furries. I’m tired of the drama, I’m tired of the BS, and I just don’t feel any reason why I should continue with it if I no longer feel any connection to it or the fandom. Now for all the friends I have made along the way, I still love you all, but this just isn’t for me anymore. I bid you farewell in a sense and may you go on about your lives. It sure was a hell of a thing, I tell you what, and what a ride it’s been. Good god I’m tired — I’m gonna go to bed. By the way, since I previously reserved a room and others are depending on me to be there, I’ll still be at Furry Connection North next month.

I do the april fools joke days or even weeks in advance. That way, the effect is much greater because doing it on April 1 makes it more predictable.

However, one time my hits sunk to an all time low because I posted in the authors rants something that says that I'm quitting webcomics and I've decided to move on with life. Thank you very much for your support!!!

lol!
NOW UPDATING!!!

Never.

As far as I can remember.

Which would be to about three days ago when I said the same thing to a friend.

The EXACT same thing.

I liked the one Brawl in the Family did.
Hey buddy, you should be a Russian Cosmonaut, and here's why.

My April fools comic got such a positive reaction I've left up till my next up date(I intended to take it down after one day.) People just love Obama I suppose.

For AF, I posted a picture of a scary fish on MOSAIC.....In France, you stick paper fish to people and things rather than playing pranks...I'm not sure why.....

My April Fools comic was particularily bad ass, in it I also referenced Dr McNinja because Dr McNinja April Fools are always awesome, too bad a normal version always replaces it on April 2nd.
