Any tips for finding a very specific name?

I would very much like to call my main character anything but 'Jack'. (really, how many main characters called 'Jack' do you know?). Jack has been his working title for far too long (over 90% of my characters have working titles. And I have been writting this story since I was seven). I am now even planning to give my comic a new title since I don't like the old one and I was thinking of maybe naming it after my main character? So technicly it's nameless.
But I'm not looking for a "Bob" or a "Trev". This name will have some significance to the storyline.
He has a simple name that isn't too bullshity for a young caucasian male living in New Zealand. It could be unusual but not something you would have to be stupid to name a person.
It is also a name that can easily (in a sort of obvious way to the readers) fit into an Ancient Egyptian Pharoah name. Preferably one that could have been in one of the dynasties during the time cats were highly regarded. I'm making up my own so technicly I need two names.
It could even maybe be a name someone from a distant planet would name a human.
Maybe even Biblical? Or Ancient?
I've found a list of many of the Egyptian Kings, I've also found many nameing websites. One problem: None of them fit togeather!!

So does anyone have advice for coming up with a name like this?
Oviously I am very specific. Lol.

Don't look exclusively at the names of kings. Pay attention to names of cities and towns. Consider Memphis. Consider the names of rivers and monuments.

I'm actually loking for the name of one of his ancestors at the same time and I don't think he was decended from a river unless his ancestors were very slutty.

Well, if you want to specifically use the name of an egyptian king, you've already done the best thing which would be to get a list of them, read through it, and see if any of the Egyptian names specifically make you think of any English names.

If your character could be related to a king but not necessarily named after him, try looking at the names of king's children. There's going to be a much longer list there.

You could adopt patterns from the Egyptian names and find English names that share part of that pattern, like names that start with 'Am' (not sure how many male names start with Am- though). don't forget you can change up some letters like Ph for F.

I think you've set yourself a hard task though. The languages and cultures are entirely different, and so word patterns aren't going to match well no matter what kind of word or name you're trying to match. There's no database for that kind of thing. You might have to compromise a lot- if it were me, I'd prefer natural sounding but unrelated names to something I had to contrive to fit.

You could go a slightly different route, for example, find out what the pharoah name you like is, then find out what it means. Then find an English name that means something similar. Or use an English name that means something about kings.

Its a little wierd, but graveyards are aweomse places to get names.

I don't know why every dead person seems to have a cool name. But they do. There must be a graveyard full of john smiths somewhere, cus everyone i've ever been to has had people like Clarence E. Blackwater and Elliliette Valentcia

I think a dead persons name is like a second hand guitar: played in and comfortable - it has a history, a soul even. I pretty much refuse to use any name that didn't come off a gravestone.
What's it all about when you sort it out, Ozone?
Are we meant to take more than we give
Or are we meant to be kind?

There's

baby name websites
- some of them go deep into the origin and meaning of the name)
For example, one of my characters name is Emmanuel Cruz. Emmanuel = God with us, Cruz = cross.

name generators
- some of them allow you to give a certain "feel" to your character) to get you started.
- whether you want the name to sound demonic, angelic, heroic, emo, goth, gangsta, japanese, arabic, greek, egyptian, filipino, chinese, western, or what have you.

Also, you can name your characters after people who made a significant contribution to your life that you'd always remember them.
NOW UPDATING!!!
