I tried looking for some single strip or even single scene comics, couldn't really find any. Thought maybe someone knew of a few good ones. I'm talking about the sort of far side comics with just a single picture and a joke. or a single strip thing like garfield.
going away - Comic Discussion (Print & Web!)

This is really more of a question for the Comics Discussion thread BUT I will tell you that Mattboy115's The Rube Goldberg Machine is a good comic that is unknown and shows what you're looking for. (bet matty will love me for that one)

A couple I read personally are George the Dragon and Raw Fish .
There have also been a few featured recently. Check out the left side of this page . Comics described as "strips" are typically in the newspaper kind of format -- including the first two listed there. (Check previous years too. Featured comics are typically worth checking out.)
Some people label their comics incorrectly sometimes, but theoretically, you can also find strips by checking that option on the Browse .

Try Gelotology by UsedBooks (especially since she was too modest to mention it herself!)
Unusual in that the strips have a science theme running through them and they still manage to be funny!

A WW2 fighter pilot, a First Century warrior queen and a prehistoric shaman. Oh, and their tailor. These are not your common-or-garden heroes! [..]

Um guys...he was asking for single panel strips. Not really that. But you did name some good comics. Just so you know.
"If you give a fish a Cat it will be unhappy but if you give the Cat the fish, the Cat will be full. Depending on the size of the fish that is."

Hmm. Well, mine's single page. Not single panel...but most pages are stand alone. There are a few that sort of extend a gag, but they're few in number.

CHOMP! is a single-page, single-panel comic most of the time. Sometimes there will be two or three-page stories, but still each page has a punchline of its own.

My comic "Half as Bad as You" is strictly following three panels per page. The jokes can be hit or miss depending on your personal opinion but a friend of mine recced it in his journal on DA.
