The anti-rape female condom (also known as anti-rape condom or the bailer, intended brand name Bailex) was invented by Sonette Ehlers, a South African woman for the purpose of preventing rape.

The device is a latex sheath held firm by shafts of sharp, inward-facing microscopic barbs that would be worn by a woman in her vagina like a tampon. Should an attacker attempt vaginal rape, the penis would penetrate the latex and be bailed by the barbs, causing the attacker pain and (ideally) giving the victim time to escape. The condom would remain bailed to the attacker's body and could be removed only surgically, which would, hypothetically, alert hospital staff and police.

The Rapex would also act as a preventative measure if an attacker had any sexually transmitted diseases. However, this invention had also caused many debates from the public.

Since most rape is either date rape or people a woman knows, I imagine a woman would only wear it certain times (dates and whatnot; she can take it out if she decides to "consent" ). Not that everyday is out of the question. Women use tampons regularly.

Sounds good to me. Sort of violent, but not more so than rape itself, IMO. Just self defense.

Ok that made me laugh (and I know I should be ><) Yes, I've seen these all over the internet and there's a lot of debate about the fact that it was made and I've heard things like 'man-hating-fem-nazi' being said about the woman who invented it O.o I think she was a psychologist and a lady who came in to see her was raped and said "if only I had teeth down there" and that's how the idea spawned.

*shrugs* I don't really have an opinion of these, if someone wants to use it then they want to use it, I personally will try to avoid any situation of which one of these things might ever be useful.

Frankly, I just see more thorough rapists and a few embarrassing moments when either the woman forgets to remove it or says "You want consensual sex? Okay, let me just remove my "Vulvanator"." What would the guy think about the woman upon hearing that?

Or a rapist get caught in the Vagina-trap, is still able to move around and is even more pissed off that his cock is stuck in a penis bear trap that he kills the woman.

Aside from everything would that thing be hygenic for the woman? I mean, she couldn't exactly leave it in 24/7 and when she did take it out she'd have to wash it carefully with stuff that wouldn't irritate her vagina... I can't imagine it's very comfortable either.

And how would she know when to wear it? On a day she's expecting to be raped? O_o And like Phantom Penguin said surely if the rapist got that thing stuck on his dick he'd lash out at the woman and she might end up in an even worse situation.

Under eight hours is safe and I can't imagine many people would want to keep that up them much long than that.

Seems like a good idea. It might mean wearing it any time you expect to go out, and it might be a bit uncomfortable, but what's that compared to having an intact mental health versus having been attacked, or worse, getting pregnant from such an attack? I dunno.

But I support people looking for solutions and ways to fight back against rape. And why not make a model for men, too? (And don't get in on me on men not being raped/not needing to be protected from rape, because it happens. Not just in prison). I dunno how that would work, but surely there's a way!

Yeah, I don't think the "Clap trap" would work as well as a Concealed Firearms License.

That thing looks plenty uncomfortable to wear, too. And what if you cut yourself while "installing" it. Seems like as much of a hassle as installing a "Club" on your steering wheel; it's troublesome and not guaranteed. People find ways around it (Like checking before hand) and such.

And whoever accused us of "supporting rape", I am extremely insulted. Insinuating that I support men who are too pathetic to get some the proper way and thus resort to force is probably the most malign thing I have ever heard. Kohdok, I never said anyone HERE supported rape. But when people said it was 'controversial' I misunderstood that as people saying "Yeah but that's not fair to the rapist". I figured out what they meant, nevermind. But still, for some reason the word Controversial doesn't seem to fit that description for me. More like... dangerous. :\
