You bring up valid points... Link never "gets the girl". In Ocarina of Time, he had plenty to choose from, too. It starts to make you wonder.

That became a running joke with me and my friend (who liked to watch me while I was playing the game). Every girl he made friends with or expressed interest in him became a sage. (All the sages were girls, except the first one who doesn't count, and that stupid goron and that was only because there are no girl gorons.) We decided that "Gee sorry girl but um you have to be a SAGE now!" was just his way of getting rid of them because he was afraid of them all.
