What sucks is, when I DO get one...more will come out five seconds later. (Or that's what it'll feel like.)

I've got a friend who's buying my PS2 off of me later, since I have the good PS3 that's fully backwards compatible. He's giving me $80 for it.

I'm going to buy Folklore and some cheap PSP game. Folklore and War of the Lions if I can find both of them used and cheap enough to get them. My Edge Card that I got should help a bit. Only 10% though.

Oh, and I've said this before, but if you decide to get a PS3, get the 60GB one. It's still has the thing that lets it be backwards compatible. And if you like your PS2, you should like the PS3.

The PS2 is interesting because almost as many great games are coming out for it as the PS3. Even with a year on the new systems, the PS2 is still pretty much the number one system across the board. I wonder how long it will last... the 'Cube and the 'Box have both essentially been retired by now, but El Dos still has some blood pumping.

It'll probably die out when the PS3 sells enough systems. The only reason Sony is still supporting it now is because they haven't sold enough PS3's. And the reason that the Gamecube and XBox don't still have games is because enough of 360's and Wii's have sold for Microsoft and Nintendo to phaze the others out.

Ironically enough, they'd probably sell more PS3's if they had those PS2 games made on the PS3.

Me? I don't even have PS2 anymore. My brother took it to his college and all I have now is this old-gen PC with 512MB Memory and increasingly aging 128MB Graphics Card.

They know that the install base of the PS2 is massive and it'll be stupid for a company to drop off support for one of the best selling consoles of all time. Also, with the whole PS3 backward fiasco they've got going on with the 40 GBs, they'll have to keep supporting the system for a while longer. The PS2 has become Sony's Gameboy Advance.

They'd still phase it out if they had the chance. I'm pretty sure that the GBA you mentioned doesn't get new games anymore (I'm probably wrong).

I'd say that when the PS3 gets its next $100 price drop, and when FFXIII comes out, (Both of which should cause it to get a pretty huge sales spike) Sony will start trying to get rid of the PS2.

I only need a 360 to complete my next gen collection : ) Well, that and a DS... I'll get the DS sometime between late 2007-early 2008 and I'll get the 360 mid-late 2008 -- oh and then a life.

I agree that the PS2 is still capable of amazing games. Hell, just kick up the graphics half a notch, start selling motion-sensitive controllers, and it would be able to play basically all the games the Wii does.

I only have a ps2 and Gamecube. With with no new system in sight.

Ouch, bad move. The Wii is very cool in its own right, but the PS2 has 7 years of some of the best games in the industry backing it up; the Wii has a few key games and the option of the sparse Gamecube library. It's going places, but it's going to need a few more quality games developed for it, instead of the torrent of cash-in mini-game fests the system's been plagued with.

I <3 my PS2, I play it in between waiting for new 360 games.

Where would I be without CTR, Abes Oddysee, Resident Evil, Pandemonium and Rayman. ;_;

In fact where would I be without all the great PS1 classics I own.

I have the ps3 40 gig. I don't know if I have any backwards-comp issues, as it's done everything I've asked of it...which is not much. I don't play it very often due to a full time job, family, and working on my comic. I just don't have the time to indulge too much.
