Yes, you have the idea down as far as shading with your colors is concerned. Ideally you would also vary your line thickness as well. If the light is coming from the right then everything to the left of any projection or round would have a thicker line than anything to the right.
It just depends on how much you want to do and why you are cartooning in the first place. The more effort you put into all of this the longer it takes to produce a finished page or strip. So you need to put those questions to yourself and answer them.
Thanks! I'll keep line thickness in mind. Right now, though, I'm just getting the hang of shading, so I'm not going to worry about it now. That's too much for me. Maybe if I get better I could start doing that.
