Absolutely, you are more than ready.
You have to crawl before you can walk. Start doing what ever...if there is a challenge, meet that challenge head on. NEVER GIVE UP.

I promise that, in the beginning, you will fail, you will fall and your ego will be hurt.
You may never make one red cent at it.
But, with luck and skill and determination, you will improve, and small accomplishments will add up into great achievements and in the end you will have developed a life long skill and a great escape.
also...its FREE!

When I was your age I read a great Quote from Lao Tzu

As long as you are having fun and doing what you want to do, then there is no failing.

Take it from me. When I was you age, I TRIED to get my stuff on the internet, but i had no idea how. I believe that if I had, I would have improved vastly. I've improved a lot in the 2 years I've been posting stuff on the internet. You're 11. Wow. Keep doing it. Work hard and one day you can succeed!

Things are never easy when you first start out, but just keep at it. Experience is the best teacher and the only way you're going to get that is through practice. So yeah, of course you're fit to make a comic, just don't give up. Good luck!

Why not? I started cartoon characters at age 11 and showed them to my family and friends.

All the reasons you gave to NOT start a comic are bullshit. If you want to make a comic, do it. That's it.

Just make one. No, you won't be the next Stan Lee or Frank Miller at first, but you can't climb a ladder by starting anywhere but the bottom.

I started webcomic's when I was 12, before that I was an RPG programmer that did his own graphics when the internet didn't have it pre-made. I'm 16 now, And I'm pretty good at that webcomic stuff. Most of my comic's haven't even seen the light of day til' I started posting them online here at DD, I just really liked making comic's, whether they were read or not.

My Advice? Keep improving, and always do it for yourself first, and don't let anyone say you simply CAN'T do it. Everyone starts at the bottom and works thier way up. -.0

Same here. Before DD, you had to use geocities or angelfire and do everything yourself. There was no community to help you out. The best we had in 2001 was top webcomics, which me and fluffy phil ran with an iron fist. Yes, I realize his name has Fluffy in the title. We had regular drama on that forum too. In fact, nothing BUT drama. From threeboy's horrible leadership to fuitad's "I need money to live" bullshit. Also the 8-bit theater guy was on there with his bunch of loser fans. Ugh. Dark days indeed.

Rich is right! I just started with random things with sprites with KittyKaBoom. Now I'm doing good on my comics, Even if they are sprites.
I'm Zoro! Upper left is Hunter, Upper Right is Zeke, Lower left is Shadow, and Lower right is Rage.

i actually started drawing comics when i was about your age, and i loved it. You'll make mistakes ofcourse, i've been drawing comics for 5 years and i still make simple mistakes. Don't be afraid to ask people questions, and study comics you like rather than just read them. Learn things like Panel alignment & voice/thought bubble positioning.

Don't mass produce comics either, make sure you take your time and think about how your going to get what you wanna say across. Make sure its something you think is good, because if you don't like it, its unlikely that anybody else will.

...Geez. You are actually HALF my age. Literally >_<;

Okay, there's no such thing as a person who's 'unfit' to do a webcomic. The only way you can fail to make a comic is...to not make one. If you set out with the goal in mind of being really popular, you might fail at that goal. So don't make popularity your goal.
Make your goal something like:
"I want to tell this story!"
"I want to make people laugh!"
"I just want to make something I enjoy"
"I want to improve my art/comic making!"

I didn't start making webcomics 'til I was about seventeen, and let me tell you, they were NOT GOOD. In fact, I'm still not up there at the top really. When I look at my comic, I'm always thinking 'I could improve this! This is terrible! Why do people even read this rubbish!?' ...But that's not a bad way to feel!
If you think you're not good, and you feel you can improve, that's a GOOD thing, because you'll always want to try to better yourself and improve.

If you're not good at being funny, then consider a story based comic, or maybe you'll find that you just THINK you're not funny because you have a style of humour that's different from other webcomic artists'. Draw a webcomic because there's a story or a joke you really want to tell that has things in it you really want to draw.

If you're lost on where to start, then ask around about specific stuff. People here are pretty friendly ^_^

You're already 11 years old and you're comicking? Now THAT's cool... Usually people start in their late 20's. Glad you came in so early~

Look, you can do anything if you just kept doing it. I'm serious. There's a LOT more hope than you think.

This year, school's full of BS!!!

I already used to draw my own comics when i was about 8 years old, so i don't think that 11 is too young at all! And if you think that your art sucks, you should check my comics now and then. It'll make you feel better about your art, without a doubt. Also, you can probably draw much better then me. ;)

Also, if you're not humorous, try to get some inspiration by reading other popular webcomics like CAD, Snafu Comics or The Outer Circle. Believe me, it helps. :)

But of course, if you really can't come up with jokes you could try to make other sorts of comics, like adventurous comics or serious comics. Comics don't always have to be funny to get a lot of readers. :)

Just remember: If you just practice a lot, you'll be an expert comic creator in no time!

Did you know Joe Madureira started in the comic business at the age of 16? (business as of getting payed proffessionally)

11 years old is a nice age to start practicing, people at even earlyer ages are the best though. I started drawing at age 16 XP.

about What should you draw??? id ask you, what do you like?? then do that

I started at making my own comics at age 10, so don't feel bad or intimidated. Just do what works for you, don't judge your art too harshly (although just about every artist is their own worst critic) and you will improve. Everyone's art is very basic and unsophisticated when they start. Practice and experience are great teachers and you will get better at bringing the vision inside your mind to the art you draw as you continue.

This is a great time in your life to get started doing something you enjoy!

I started making real comics (with panels and all) when I was in 7th grade. They weren't really good but I didn't care because I enjoyed doing it. A year later I actually developed a style with my comics (showed it to people), registered on Drunk Duck, and it's all history from there.

Moral: the younger you START drawing comics, the BETTER you become.

I started doing comics in 5th grade. Looking at what I did back then, compared to my most recent works, is the funniest thing in the world. I remember drawing my very first comic strip and how I thought it was the greatest thing ever. Now I can't believe I ever thought that.

Anyway, the best thing I can suggest is practice. I know it sound cliche' but it works, I spent many summer days drawing by the pool and it took 7 months for me to develope a style that I'm still changing.

And you want to be funny? Study. Go on youtube and look up comedians like dane cook or bill engval(sp?). Find what makes you laugh and learn from it.

You pretty much answered your own question. From what your saying you feel that your not ready to undertake a comic yet. Don't ask others, examine yourself, if you fell your not ready then don't start. You don't want to figure out that your unfit by the time you've strted your comic, Practice your style, learn new techniques, and then when when YOU think your up to snuff you should then start.
