Judging from the advent of good superhero movies... usually it takes Hollywood around 50-60 years to learn how to make something good from "children's" media.
So video game and anime/manga Hollywood movies will be as good as The Dark Knight in 2040-2050.

Hey, you know the Japanese/Asians are just as guilty of butchering American icons too you know!
I saw clips of their live-action Spider-man TV show and at first I thought they were doing pretty good with Spidey himself portrayed as an acrobatic martial artist which he pretty much can be...
But then I went "What the @#$% IS WITH THIS GIANT TRANSFORMING ROBOT that appears in the episode???!!!
lol!
And DON'T get me started on a filipino version of BATMAN I saw!!!
:spin: :dizzy: huh!?

Yeah, wonder if anyone protested that, huh? They all turned Japanese :)
By the way, the director of Akira just packed up and left, so they're looking for a new one.

El Cid

I was watching Battlefield Britain earlier today and thought it was kinda weird that both the Romans and the Brits spoke English with a British accent. Shouldn't the Romans have some kind of Latin accent, like Spanish or Italian?

El CidThe native Britains at that time wouldn't have even spoke English because that wasn't around yet. They'd have mostly been gibbering away in Gaelic, or even speaking Latin themselves- sounding more Italian than Spanish.

I think speaking with an English accent then is a fairly good compromise... But it is a lot nicer when they do the accents you expect.

Everyone in the ancient world spoke with an English accent, especially Romans. Either that or badly dubbed American English. But certain slaves spoke in Brooklyn accents.
There was one movie where the Romans and Celts had English accents and the Saxons had German accents. I notice that in those movies they never fight the Angles only the Saxons.
If you want Romans and Greeks speaking Italian then find those wonderful 1960's sword and sandal movies in the original non-dubbed versions.

The Angles and Saxons illegally emigrated to Britain together, but the indigenous population of Romano-Celts referred to them all as Saxons.
Kind of like calling all South Americans crossing the border, Mexicans.

mlaiHa! Ah, but just like modern Americans that call all South American immigrants "Mexican", neither the Romano-Celts no full Celts were indigenous. They'd long ago dominated and displaced the earlier people... Sort of like with the Native Americans :)

And lots of nationalistic Gaelic mined people like to imagine that they were the one, true, original people (even today)... just like modern American white supremacists. :)
bravo1102lol! -Where the Saxons were actually the ones that gave them English to start with!

I love dorking up threads with you. :)

I'm under the assumption that that Spider-Man and that Batman was meant to be intentionally goofy, lol, or the translation was not lost - just static between the people behind either, resulting in something pretty hilarious. xD
No, Hollywood's just can't keep up with the current trends. :P
I'm all for Bette Midler and Anthony Hopkins to star in the new Urusei Yatsura live-action film. I hear it's gunning for the Oscars, so let's keep our hopes up on high, eh?
