As pointed out i believe the skill all depends on when you started drawing and how much you work on it.
That said, the person MUST WANT to get better and not stay on the same path all the time. Ive seen several artists here on DD thru the years that just go on in the same tracks page after page without trying to improve.
Id say you need some kind of sence for what works and not, design wise. Everyone can learn to draw but it takes that certain something to make it stand out and look special.
So no, age dont matter much.

Wow... I feel old compared to the rest of you. I turn 20 later this month. I'm not sure anymore how my art is compared to others my age, cause I haven't been around artists since I dropped out of art school a year ago.

So I decided to draw and it started out looking like this

Now my comics look like this

All in all. Yeah I got better with a lot of practice. But as days go by I learn more things and people give me more tips. I still have a lot ot learn (^_^).

It's called denial. That's the first stage that people go through when they hear someone they know has died. It's also the last stage of genocide.

Well, I'm 13, 14 in a few weeks, and I think I draw quite well. However, I don't think age determines how well you draw. A lot of other kids my age can't seem to draw much better than my 8-year old brother. Thus, I think that drawing talent is based on the individual.

Age doesn't matter. It's how much effort and focus one are willing to put in his or her drawings. When you feel your drawing doesn't look right, learn to correct it until it looks good.
I know someone who has zero drawing experience throughout her life and she only started drawing at age 18 or so. But after several months of practice, I can say her pencil lining is more impressive that most experienced artists I've encounter.

I'm 17, soon 18. I'd say my comic is fairly well drawn but there's still a long way for me to go, as I'm aiming for becoming a prof -.- I've been drawing my entire life and I started seriously practicing when I was 11 (started drawing horses, dragons and stuff =/)

I'm 14 and have been sketching a lot recently. The below is serious style art since my comic is drawn simple on purpose.
I dont think age is the biggest factor...its whether you practice or not. Of course this art will look like crap to me in the next few years but dedication seems more important. I also think improving comes with people that tell you how much you suck..which I haven't gotten enough of lately : /

Started drawing when I was 15/16, and I'm now 17. Age doesn't matter - it's time and effort. Natural talent helps - but hard work can surprass that. Hard work *and* talent create masterpieces.
Unfortunately, I'm rather lazy. :-D

Not bad work! ^^
Practise is the key... I'm fairly good at drawing, but when I don't practise I really start to lose my skills.

You know, looking at literacysuk1's work, his drawings are actually a lot more realistic then the actual comics those are in. Real humans aren't as slim or muscular as the comic make them seem, and those drawings reflect that.
I can't wait to see a realistic comic from you, literacys1.

My stance on the subject is that age isn't too much of a factor, it's more dependent on how early you start and how much your draw. I started either in or before kindergarten, can't remember exactly, but have drawn almost constantly ever since. My drawing style itself goes through sudden changes every few months, I turned 15 a couple of months ago and my comic really shows a difference beginning to current, to me anyway.

Some people are naturally BRILLIANT at drawing, like Eunice P. I've seen some of her earlier works and they're still downright AMAZING.

I think that how long you've been doing art and how hard to practice really plays a key factor. You might be 45, but if you've only been really trying art for a year you might really suck.
There is the camp of born-talented artists
and the camp of work hard-talented artists
Both must practice to get better, the first group just has a head start.
I'm 25, but started comics/art at 22 after burning out of music, you should see some of the crap that I did when I started...HORRID.
 (not that my stuff is fabulous today, but there is definitely growth shown).

I think that too. TV shows for kids these days (barring Avatar) as so lame. The stories are crap, and it's SO easy to predict what's going to happen next. Back in MY day we had things like Superman and Batman animated series which actually challenged one's intellect with intelligent stories. However these days shows are so cliche. And kids can tell that.

21, going on 22 sooner than I'd like...
as far as drawing goes, I know I'm not good, but I also know that I've gotten a lot better, I've been drawing for about 3 or 4 years now, but not religiously enough to imporve in leaps and bounds, but enough to get better at shading and proportions, and side veiws. I'm proud of myself in the fact that I did a 3/4 view that didn't suck.
Still, I have a lot of limitations in what I can and can't do, but I don't let it get me down (too much).
And some people are just amazing at some tasks - writing, drawing, painting, singing, dancing, acting, etc... and have a natural gift.
Others have to work long and hard at it to get the same results.
As long as your heart's in it, it shows, I think.

I'm 18, been drawing as long as I can remember. Only with my comic, however, did I really start forcing myself to draw regularly; previously, I would only when the mood struck me (which was still very often), but when something was bad, I got frustrated and lost confidence. Now, because I update daily, I have to force myself despite how crappy I might think it is, and it's really made a huge difference in my work. Plus, all the practice has made my drawing in general much more controlled and free.
I think it has less to do with age than how long you've been putting forth serious effort; of course, having a knack for it helps too.
For an example of how dramatic practice can affect ability...
Here's the first "serious" character design I did of Kit. I remember, when I drew this, I was like "holy shit awesome!" This was back in March. Of this year. Just March!
Six months later...
Kit is considerably more awesome. And it's not just that I tweaked the design - practice has actually made me a better artist.
I've also noticed that drawing in a variety of styles helps, too. I know a lot of people who do comics here basically draw the only way they know how; I don't mean to insult anyone, I really really don't, but it's much more productive to try other ways of drawing and art in general. My sister aggravates me a lot with this - when she goes "hey, I'm gonna draw a serious drawing of ___", she does it in the exact same way as her doodly things. Same line quality, general facial set up...it's very frustrating, because I bet she actually has a lot of skill under that.
Blatantly bragging now, I can draw "seriously", too:
Anyway yeah. It's just from practice. Varied, forced practice. Art may be more fun than other things generally considered "work", but you can't look at it like a walk in the park; you will get bored/frustrated. I think that might be the biggest factor with age/skill, in two ways:
1. Kids just havent' been around as long
2. The younger people that are really driven end up doing better because they just practice their asses off.
Then again, this is all based on almost solely my experience. I could be very wrong :p

I agree with Suzi. It's basically practice, practice, practice.
I'm almost 17 (soooo close!) and there are certain things I think I'm good at, and others I think I'm really awful at. I've been drawing people, more specifically expressions and hands, and I think I'm pretty good at them. I've been drawing them since I was about 4, so it's really no wonder. However, when it comes to, say, trees or cars or mechanical things, I feel like I'm really really bad at drawing them.
I've found that I plateau a lot when I draw. There will be moments when I think "Wow! I can finally draw that one thing without making it look weird!" When I was little, I would get so frustrated because I would picture things in my head, but I didn't have the drawing skill to put them on paper.
Another thing about being an "all-around" artist is that you can't always draw what you like. I never liked drawing backgrounds and trees when I was little, so there's no way I would be all that great at them now, since I never practiced drawing them.
One thing I do find I have a natural knack for is perspective. I think it's fun.

I just turned 15.
I've been drawing since I was able to hold a pencil, but I'm sure I can still do better for my age. But I'm really happy I'm taking my first art classes this school year! 'Cause I need help with anatomy and stuff.
I started drawing comics when I was in the first grade. Stick figure comics. They were really bad, but awfully cute. I should really scan one...
But I got really serious when I was 11...
I don't really like to talk about my age. I don't know why. But it's okay here :D
