I agree, 9 was not great at all. Yeah it looked kinda pretty, but the story was all over the place. ...And 8 totally looked like Oogie Boogie from Nightmare Before Christmas.

They should have just left it alone and kept it as the great short film it originally was. Ah well, that's Hollywood for ya.

but district 9 was a short film. and it turned out excellent.

The short film was so neat. And the trailers looked so neat... ahhh....

Well shit. And I was really looking forward to it.

It wasn't the train wreck that either of the Transformers movies were, but it wasn't as good as I was hoping, either. It really could have benefitted from some better dialog and abigger budget. It really felt like they couldn't get the money to make a full movie so they just split the difference and made half of one. Considering it's not aimed at kids, you'd think it could have benfitted from a bit more exposition and some more time spent establishing the world it takes place in. Instead, they try to cram as much as possible into an hour.

I also didn't like the ending as much as the original.

I mean come on. Everyone dies except for 9 and the chicks? Why do they even have male and female versions? It's not like they can reproduce. And if I was 1, I'd be pissed. "Yeah, you woke the damn thing up and got us all killed and now you get to live the sweet life as the only guy in a foursome."

I mean if you think about it, the whole damn thing was his fault, he SHOULD have ended up alone in the end. Had he not intervened, the last of the killer robots would have been wiped out and they ALL could have lived happily ever after.

i just watched the original. with 11 minutes there's really not much they can do, but that's pretty good. definatly better than the movie.

the movie tried to add morals and stuff.

I don't tend to watch things I think will turn into a Hot Topic kid classic, like Invader Zim or Nightmare before Christmas. I wasn't sure if 9 was gonna be one of those things, but I wasn't gonna take the chance. I already learned my lesson from Coraline... if the people on deviantart give it 5 stars, don't watch it. :dizzy:

You're missing out on a hilarious show with Invader Zim....quite possibly the best show Nick has ever put out there. That's right, I said it. I may be biased because I got very close to getting a job on that show, but still. Good show.

All the early episodes were brilliant. But then it started to lose focus or overdo stupid lines by unfunny characters and I stopped watching.
Did it get better again? :)

It seemed to get a bit better just before it got cancelled. Apparently the loss in quality was Nickelodeon's fault. Vasquez claimed they kept meddling (they asked him to do a show for older viewers and then complained it wasn't kid-friendly enough), and he eventually just gave up trying to fight it.

That's what I've heard anyway. I personally believe it since Nick have a pretty bad reputation for meddling.

Oh why did you guys have to bring up Invader Zim? I'm still bummed out about it being canceled.

Anything Tim Burton has ever done, or will ever do, will always become a new source of obsession for the Hot Topic kids if it has not already.

I thought 9 looked kind of generic and never really considered seeing it. Everyone kept talking about the 'wonderful art' but artistically it reminded me of 'Igor' (which I also didn't see)- like a Tim Burton rip-off. (I know he produced it or something.. but still.)

Coraline, on the other hand... CORALINE WAS AMAZING!!!!
