I live near the town where ol' Marty's house is and they recently put up a statue of him. My dad and I saw a picture in the paper and were like "OHEMEFFGEEBILBO!"

One possible explanation occurs to me, apart from simple coincidence: The look of Bilbo for the movie could've been based on an old pic of Van Buren. ;)

I used to live near a famous poet in Indiana, I think his name was Thayer something... anyways, he named his dog after the street he lived on so he wouldn't forget what street he lived on.

And while that has absolutely NOTHING to do with this discussion, I don't get a lot of opportunities to tell that story. D:
