I'm currently using this progam to learn 3d modeling for 3d pictures, anybody use this?

I'm looking for good beginner's tips and tutorals on the blasted thing.

seriously, I need help. the teacher I have tends to speak in an manner where I don't even understand what he's trying to tell me. it's the big words I understand, it's just how he says them... ugh.

well, I'm learning how to use this progam to model and render things in 3D. It can be not only for artstic pictures, but also for creating things in games and the like.

although, I'm actually learning about 3d art. so it's mostly for pictures right now. but I was also hoping to have it help with my Dev status at IMUV (an 3d chatting progam where you can dress up your avtar and stuff). I'm an Dev there, meaning that eventally I can get to create hairstyles and stuff. but so far all I can do is recolors.
eventally, I want to learn how to do 3d stuff so that I can create whole 3d scenes for the avtars to be in, as well as creating cool clothing for them. that's my dream. ^^;;

In fact, that was the only reason why I signed up for that stupid class. that and so that I could get to get an expensive 3d progam software for free.

I'd rather use Maya.

I've used it a little, but only to create very simple things with boxes and cylinders, like rooms. :) I dunno anything about the animation or complex stuff.

I only know Lightwave, because that's what I learned and I haven't been bothered with the rest after that.
The simple shapes are called primitives. You can use them to create more complex shapes, or you can just structure 3D shapes using points...

3D art is way too complex to talk about in a general art forum. If you're serious about learning it, ask your teacher every single time you have a problem! Get them to help you properly and to correctly explain things to you, that's what teachers are for.
You should also try and do a bit of reading about the program you're using. Your teacher or your classmates should be able to reccomend some good books to you.

I'm going to try teaching myself that over the next few months, under the guide of my cousin, who seems to make intricate 3D max games for kicks. Er, so when I'm in any way competent, I'll trot back to this thread and try to assist.

I used 3DsMAX quite a bit, even up to version 7, before I switched to Maya because it's more commonly used in the movie industry.

Ozone's right though, you're asking about an advanced 3D renderer on a site where 60% of the people steal their graphics from videogames or use MS Paint. :)

If you're looking for a whole mess of tutorials, try this place:
http://highend3d.com/
It encompasses all the major 3D software packages and provides not only tutorials, but you can order teaching DVDs and other stuff. And if you have specific questions about 3dsMAX, I may remember enough to be able to help you a bit.
