Since no one has made a '24 hour comics' thread, I will!

In case you haven't heard of this, it's a day every year when comic-makers do their best to stay up for 24 hours straight and try to complete 24 pages in 24 hours. It's a fun exercise that promotes speed and creativity (and endurance, for those who actually DO try and stay up the whole time). The idea is to JUST DO COMICS rather than plan them out, labour over the art, etc. These comics can be quick, easy, messy, nonsense, etc- the point is just to do them.

A growing number of comic shops will host an in-store event where people can come to the store, hang out with each other, and work on their comics. Apparently it's easier to do this with other people than on your own! You might also be able to set up an irc chatroom, etc, if you're stuck on your lonesome but want to participate with someone else.

Wowio tells me they are planning a sort of video streaming event for that day, so there's a place for everyone to go and hang out together and get in the spirit.

I think it would also be cool if people here on DD who are participating on the day can post here in this thread! Even if you can't manage all 24 pages, or have to do it on the 3rd, or something!

I'm considering doing it, completely on my own, for my own benefit. Pretty much just to see if I can.

Perhaps I should film stuff... maybe.

I may take part, but I'd have to do it over the course of 2 days, as I can't afford to do the 24 hours in one go lol. Also, I may do it in under 24 hours as my pages don't tend to take an hour to draw out lol. Is that ok do you think?

That is how mine will probably work out anyway. I can't not sleep in the middle of it so i am going to try and cram it into thr 24 hour period, if I fail then I fail btu I will still complete the comic in the hours after the 24 are up.

If I have nothing better to do I'll do this myself just for kicks, to see if I can come up with anything fresh

I'm doing this. I'll be at the Enchanted Grounds, a gamer's coffee shop, from 5pm Saturday to 5pm Sunday with sixteen other comic artists. John Peters, the guy nominally "in charge" (as much as anyone can be in charge with this crew, we're worse than cats!) mentioned something about having Skype up, and I'll probably open mine up... maybe.

Denver has at least three locations hosting the event, probably more.

And for the record, this is my first Challenge, and as such, not -entirely- going by the spirit. By that, I mean that I'm bringing a story idea with me, rather than participating in the Story Premise exchange. Next year. This year it's all about actually working freehand (my comic here is 3d rendering) and getting the hang of the idea. Baby steps.

I think because I don't have very much time, my focus is going to either be on thinking up a super-simple character design so I can draw quickly (I am really slow), but not a whole lot of output..... or come up with a couple of simple 'template' drawings so I can copy and paste and add accents, but try to come up with lots of jokes and stuff so I have more 'pages.' Copy/pasting feels kind of like cheating though, and I haven't had time to think of a premise I could do lots of jokes about.

Hey guys. Just to let you know that we've decided to make a community comic for the 24 hour comic day as means to put these comics out for display.

Basically all those participating in this challenge can send me a link to your pages, if you want, and I'll collect them and put them in this comic.

Every person who submits will be given a chapter link, meaning that on the front page, there'll be a link to your submission, thus promoting equal coverage for everyone.

I'm also planing to give those who participate a link banner which you could use to link to your submission directly (don't worry, those who don't know how, I'll show you how it's done).

At any rate, here's the comic itself.

Update: The first comic is already up. Gene Hole has the honor of earning the first spot.
Those were my two cents.

Haha, I did a miserable job at being productive, but it was nice to spend almost a full half-day just doing drawing and tv. :] I didn't do a comic but I did work on other art I've been wanting to do. Only one thing got fully finished though... the rest is partial, sketches, and plan work.

I have a lot to do today so I'm going to try and finish that stuff up first, so I can do some more art...

I did the first 12 pages of my comic as planned yesterday, although it was only done in around 4 hours lol. So today I shall be doing the next 12 pages! :)

Hi guys. I've been getting allot of great submissions for the 24 hour comic collection but there's always room for more. ^^

Please do send over your project, once you're done with it. And thanks in advance for participating. :)
