Why do a lot of teenage girls see Edward Cullen as a "Knight in shining armour"?

Due to my recent girlfriend being a twilight fan I've had to grit my teeth when she quotes the book and talks about how "Dreamy" and "Strong" Edward Cullen aparently is.

Theres a shit load of stronger more attractive heroes out there.

Just look at spiderman.

Eh, I like his abilities well enough, but Spiderman as a person is kind of a wiener half the time. He's only vaguely less of a boy scout than Superman.

Now, Batman, he's a hero. I mean, he doesn't even need super powers, he's just that bad ass.

Personally, seeing how hard it is to completely redeem a twilight fan, I do my best to turn them to Buffy the Vampire Slayer. If you think about Twilight, really all it is is Buffy with all the good parts ripped out.

Then you compare the romantic interests:

Both are dark, mysterious, but ultimately sensitive guys. The difference is Edward is wimpy vegetarian creeper, and Angel is a vampire ridden with guilt after nearly 200 years of eating people and then cursed to bear his soul alongside being possessed by a demon. (oh and he burns to death in sunlight rather than sparkling)

The difference: one is actually a character worth developing.

I agree. And the thing about Buffy is that the vampires are actually a threat, so the romance between a human and a vampire in the Buffy universe is a lot more risque.

I will confess that I DO like Twilight (movie), mostly because the first time I watched the movie was with the Rifftrax. I've never being able of take that thing seriously after that. It's a parody of how whinny the genre could become.

The book is so poorly written that it feels like bad fanfiction. It's pretty funny, but not as much as the movie.

Too bad that it ruined what are some pretty cool villains, but Vampires where getting pretty annoying since Anne Rice took on the genre.

True, there are manly anime characters, but I feel like they kind of died out after a while. Most of the super masculine anime/manga I can think of on the spot are from the 80's and early 90's (including Hokuto no Ken).

I feel like even the shonen manga (JUMP etc) have become super wimpy tortured emo guys. I miss the good old days of City Hunter!

We all know the movies are bad, edward is bad, bella is bad (I could go all night like this). the movie is so infamous that people (in my town at least) don't call it by "twilight" they call it "the vampire movie". And still, Meyer must be counting bills on his desk right now
