I swore up and down that I wasn't going to make myspace accounts for my characters, but I did anyway. does this make me a bad person?

What do you mean? As in pretending to be your characters on Myspace?
EDIT: Fuck it, I'm not waiting for a response. I'm doing this shit too.

I once stumbled upon a myspace for Law and Order's ADA McCoy.
I thought it was really, really sad...
It even had a bunch of people responding who were under the names of other characters from the show like Stabler and Goren.

initially I didn't want to because of all the tardism going on in myspace, but then I figured... I don't care if a few retards read my comic, they are going to find it inevitably anyway, might as well get it over and done with and just go with sheer advertising quantity.

Ah, so it's just the mass retardism going on that makes everything so annoying? Good, that oughta fit the angle I'm taking this at anyways.

yeah... I think everyone's brains are leaking. It may be catching too... that might just be the only reason I went to myspace to begin with, but really I figured it would be an easy and not to mention free way of giving them profiles.

You're just using it to give them profiles? I'm going to keep them acting in character to give people a sort of chance to interact with the nonfictional characters. I feel it would give them more appeal.

I'd make a myspace account, but A) I really don't like myspace and B) ....I don't particularily think it would make much sense, considering the time period I write in.
HOWEVER, I think it's a good idea for people to populate myspace with stuff that's actually interesting, so I wish you all luck. :D

Achewood has had blogs/journals for its characters for ages, where the webcomic guy writes in-character as them. He really takes it a long way apparently, and they're supposed to be almost as good as the comic itself. :) I expect the myspace thing is a similar idea.

Yeah, the whole keeping your characters in character and running a blog from their point of view is awesome. I'm so doing this shit and I strongly suggest everyone else do it too.
Hell, perhaps if this idea really takes off you could sticky it in the 'comic discussion' section or the 'hey look wat i did!' section.
Hilarious in character blog = WIN!

well when I said I'd give them a profile, that wasn't all I meant, more like a profile from the comic, but a leak into the real world as well.

That's too much work to make a blog for the characters because then nothing is happening that's really riveting or interesting you know? I can't stand reading my friends' LiveJournals sometimes and so I don't see how I could get through one of a false character I've never met.
I would rather just write a specific comic (if its a comic strip, then nevermind) centered more around the characters than the story for at least 1 and then bickity BAM, golden balls start glowing and you start getting comic hits.

Or you could attach a link to the blog on your comic and vice versa and watch the idiots from Myspace join your legion of loyal fans.

it's not just as simple as having a good character and a good plot. If you're a nobody in the comic world, then you've got to draw attention to yourself.
Seriously. Do you know how many good comics I've found on here that have been up for years, are updated regularly, but nobody seems to be watching it? and it's all because you never see the author anywhere, they aren't in the forums, they aren't commenting, they are just sitting back and posting their comic in the dark patiently waiting for someone to come look at their comic.
I've decided to be proactive in my quest for readers, which is why I went with a comic-server in the first place, let alone why I'm using every avenue at my disposal to post free advertisments about it, or have fun with it.
Can you honestly tell me it's not a put-off to post page after page and have nobody comment or even look at your page? On the same note, can you honestly say it doesn't feel good to have people leave comments, even criticism or sugguestions and have more people checking your shit out?

If I still was updating my comic I might do this. But I hate Mysapce, and I'm not very funny. So it would be kind of a waste. Fun idea though. No Need for Bushido has a "Daimyo Blog" updated every so often. Good stuff.

yeah. I know. ignore my spastic outbursts. I'm retarted sometimes. I know about it and realize it's a problem, I'm working on my blonde headed moments, but as I AM an actual blonde... It's a bit difficult.

The Rambling Crazy Man has had a Myspace account for almost as long as I have (a long, long time). In fact I think his Myspace page may date back to before I started the webcomic. And just like me, he never uses it. Also the Electric Penguin , but I almost never check his e-mail.
Reading about all this makes me think maybe Torando needs a Myspace. He's a lame poser, and Myspace is overrun with lame posers, IT'D BE MAGICAL.
