Hi guys, you know that grey box below the comic where it has a sponsor ad, and two tabs that say "email this comic to a friend" and "tag comic"? ...Is there any way to remove that box?
Actually, with some CSS it is very possible without overlaying it. It basically calls for rebuilding the page in divs, rather than tables. Here is an example of a layout I am working on currently: http://www.drunkduck.com/Aelwyns_Layout_Test/
Feel free to view the page source to see what I have done.
I don't see why we wouldn't endorse that kind of modification, considering that bar is something someone on the programming end thought might be a good idea and stuck it on every page and no one ever uses it.

It's also modifying an ad space though Skool, or rather; getting rid of it.
oz- Hm, I suppose so. I never see an ad there because I use adblock, so I forgot there was an ad there. :]
flapjack - to implement it you need to modify your page's html to accomodate the CSS tip inkdolls just described a few posts above. I can't advise how to do that myself, unfortunately.
Well, on the Terms of Use and such, the only thing I could find in relation was that you cannot modify the header or footer of the page; but it didn't mention anything about in between which is why I implemented it in the first place on that layout XD
However, I will be posting a full CSS template later this week, and will make sure
I don't include that snip-it of code since you don't think it is appropriate.
The story with the header and footer thing was that the TOS pre-dates that bar change. When the grey bar was added we got rid of the ad in the footer that no one saw and kept it in the grey bar -Which all users absolutely hated (including me).
Heh, in fact I even considered quitting over that back then I was so angered by it, DJ Coffman (one of the paid Plat artists at the time) was complaining about my antipathy to the ads and I was given a stern talking to by Plat's head of online publishing at the time
Funnily enough THEY'RE both long gone from DD and Plat, but I'm still here. ^_^
We had the header and the footer ad AND now one under the comic pages as well. Getting rid of the footer ad was a compromise for DD keeping the ad under the comics. -a poor one, but the best concession we could get. -_-
Now, no one really minds too much. At best it's an irritation. But DD runs on a much tighter margin these days so the online ad revenue is much more important to the survival of the place; that's the reason this needs to stay limited.
Y'know it would be really smart to have some sort of subscription service that would remove all the ugly ads and provide extra services *cough* ftp *cough* for a small monthly fee. : / but css works fine too. im actually surprised no one has a problem with this.
