I'm one of the few artists who love inking to the extend that I even indulge in studying the different styles of inking. I used to do lots of traditional inking but, nowadays I ink more in digital.

The earlier inking pens I used were the felt tips:

Eventually, I move to using professional inking tools like like G-nibs, school-nibs, etc. Notice that each line of stoke always thicken on the center to create dynamic feel:

Soon, I adapt myself doing digital inking but my inking style are mostly shonen type:

I also experimented on other styles such as American superhero comic inking style (bold, rough, may contain lots of shading) and shoujo inking style (most of the lines are fine and flat):
Sample 4

Finally, I've moved to a more recent style of inking where the lines are crisp, fine and thickens where the shadow falls:

So, how many of you out there experiment with different styles of inking like I do?

Well, I've had only about 3 styles of inking.

First there was my incredibly basic, outlining. Which I did with pigment liner pens. Like Staedtler or Microns.

Didn't look very good, and that was when I was terrible.

Then there was a bit of improvement, when I started using brush pens, and microns for detailing. Which apparently you can't see for some reason...(I'll have to fix that later)

And then here's now. Which I use Pilot Precise V5 pens, and sharpies. That's it. I think I came up with a style I love.

All of that, in about a year or so. :D

sup guise. i'm ryu.
