I can't figure out how to get my thumbnails to look good.

Here's my original jpg. 15kb 80x100



And here's what happens to it once I upload it to DD



The DD thumb is only 5kb so I guess the size loss it what's doing it. But still, why the size loss? And how do I get my thumbs to look as good as some of the other ones I see.

Help.

Save it as a gif first. That might help, as it simplifies the colours right down. If you have a program like photoshop you can tell it to save in 256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, 2 or your own custom amount of colours. The less you save it as the more likely you are (probably) to have them save the right way when the image server re-compresses them.

-That's an automatic thing. Whatever image you upload it will always try to re-compress them to -save space and make sure things load fast.

The other side of this though is that you're really the only one who's going to notice stuff like that man. People don't really see distortion like that in web images unless it's pointed out to them, or they try to enlarge it for some reason.
