Just thought I'd get a thread started about a little get-together that Michael "MacLPirata" Moreno and I are organizing, the Dallas Webcomics Expo. It will be held at the Southfork Hotel in Plano on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009. The corresponding website is DWEX.info ... more to come!

Well, we pushed DWEX back a month - to the weekend of Nov. 14 - and I found a venue that's available that weekend. Now all we need is to come up with $500 for the deposit. We also need to start getting sponsors together and some other organizational stuff. There's a lot to do... but we're still intent on making this happen! Any advice on organizing one of these things would be appreciated... I haven't had much luck picking the brains behind the New England Webcomics Weekend.

DWEX is open for business! We'll have 30 artist tables and 6 merchant spaces to start off with... if there's enough demand we'll throw in a few more tables.

Prices are $25 for a half-table (incl. 1 badge) and $40 for a full table (incl. up to 3 badges).

Merchant spaces sell for $100 and include up to 2 tables and up to 5 badges.

With the money we've collected so far, we're halfway to covering the rent for the event space! Woohoo!

There's no deadline to get your money in, but the sooner we can get spaces sold, the easier we can breathe about the rent and the more stuff we can throw into this event!

I'm going to TRY to attend....but since I live in KY, it will be a pretty good road trip if I can make it work out. I have a friend in Texas I can visit with, so that helps me out a bit as far as the drive.

That would be cool! Since I have 6, webbed fingers, it would be High sixes. A job I was counting on , fell through today.....so I have no idea what my schedule will be by then. I would like to meet you guys, as well as Just No Point,PyThomas, and anyone else from the Duck world. Is anybody staying the night at that hotel? (It is in a hotel, is it not?)

I dunno if I'll get a hotel room - especially since it's fairly close to my house - but they ARE running a special for DWEX-goers: $59/night! And these are some luxurious rooms too! I talked to my MM boys. Unfortunately, we're all spread out cross-country, and for one day we can't justify making it out for it (we'll be in long beach the month before).

But we're definitely looking for something in Texas to replace the Wizard World that they took away during that same time frame. If you guys can get a good start this year, and maybe expand it next year, I'm pretty sure we'll be able to head out that way.

I'm looking at flights and hotel costs. I think I will try to go because I need to get out of this town for a few days. :-P

If anyone would be able to help me with transportation between the airport and hotel (or anyone wants to share a hotel room), could you PQ me? I don't smoke and am not a serial killer.

I have an issue with this as well as I wouldn't want to take a taxi XD.

I can hold four people in my chevy cavalier. That said it is a 2 door so it would be a tad inconvenient getting in and out a lot.

I'm also going to be staying at that hotel. Since we don't really know each other and both Vickie and Nicotine are female while I am one of those evil males, I'm not sure if you would want to share a room with me.

I talked to Tim Tyler and he may meet me at my house in Arkansas. Then I would drive from there to Texas and we'd share a room.

I guess you could bring mace and share the rooms to be safe =p

I also don't smoke or drink and there is no smoking in my car. So Nicotine has to ride on top of it... I mean, look at her username! My whole car would smell! *imagines Nicotine as a huge nicotine patch* XD

Actually... I don't know... maybe it's me that should feel unsafe. Both of you write murder stories @_@

Oh, and will we have assigned seats? Would be nice to be able to sit by people we "know" there. Maybe have a DD section? If we had more time we could put together a collab book for those of us that are going so we could share it!

I'm sure I could help with rides to/from the convention and any group outings (like if we all went out for dinner/drinks or something Saturday night). I'll have a BetaJess, but I can fit 2-3 people in my backseat (I have a 4-door).

I haven't ordered my plane tickets yet (waiting to hear from my bro), but I'll let you know the timing on that.


Personally, I've never had trouble sharing rooms with males, since I've had male roommates throughout grad school (it was good to have a designated spider-killer), and been on mixed-gender road trips. But I wouldn't want to upset the house detectives. XD Anyway, my brother might be joining me, so I won't be the vulnerable single lady all by herself.

I think my friend Gael has a mace, but I don't think the airlines would -- Oh, you said mace, not *a* mace.


That would be fun. ^_^ I reserved a full table to share with my brother (he's not on DD, but his racy webcomic Sex on the Xerox would probably fit in nicely here ^_^; ).

I'm still making plans for this; I haven't gotten a plane ticket either.

I'm going to reserve one with two beds for the 13th and 14th. If my brother comes with me, it might be iffy. If he can't come, I'm game for a female roommate.

I'm not sure if hotels have age limits. Couldn't hurt to call and ask.

My mom just brought up an obvious solution. If my brother joins me and Tim's plans fall through, Dave could share a room with JNP, and Nicotine could stay with me. Heh. It's a thought.

In any case, I'm reserving a room with two beds.

I just called and asked about any discounts for those nights. Seems there is not one.

I'm going to go ahead and get a 2 bed room just in case any of you need to crash there.

I'll be arriving on the 13th and will be leaving on the 16th. I think I'll upgrade to a full table so I can get an extra badge. That way if Nicotine or another DD member comes in with no membership I can share the table and give them a badge.

Anyway, if needed I can share a room with whomever. I am getting the cheapest 2 bed room I can find though. So don't think I'll be treating anyone to the Honey Moon Suit with the sunset balcony. I'm looking at you Tyler >:-(

EDIT: @ Vickie's edit: At the last convention I was at more than 2 ppl stayed in the rooms. I guess it depends on how strict the hotel is but I assume they know this stuff will be happening with things like this.

And that's not fair! I wanted the bragging rights of having 2 girls in my room >:-(

My concern about 3+ people is just the idea of sharing a *bed* with a stranger, not a room. I guess it doesn't bother some people. I know my sister's friends have crammed 5+ adults of mixed genders into a hotel room before. -- If you and Tim don't mind, I could send Dave to your room.

Anyway, I made my reservations. I'm sure we can accommodate you, Nicotine. We can shuffle people around when we get there.

Huh??? There's supposed to be a $59 rate for DWEX attendees at the Southfork. Call them and ask for Kelley Nimmo, or email her at knimmo@southforkhotel.com, she's the one that set it up.

And if anyone has any special seating requests, we'll honor as many as we can, just PQ me with the inquiries.

So far on the confirmed list I would like to sit near Amanda, Jessics, and Vickie. If Tim can make it we may share the same table too... not sure.

Also wouldn't mind sitting by Allen from Due East or Nicotine. I follow these comics and talk to these individuals somewhat regularly give or take the person. =p
