The summer movie season is generally a time when the studios pull out their big guns, and 2009 is no exception. We've got superheroes (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and a couple reboots of classic sci-fi franchises (Star Trek and Terminator Salvation). We've got wizards (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince) and real American heroes (GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra). We've got brand new films from Pixar (Up), Judd Apatow (Funny People), and Quentin Tarantino (Inglourious Basterds). For those who prefer romance to explosions, there's something for you, too (Ghosts of Girlfriends Past, The Ugly Truth). And what would the summer be without sequels (Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Angels & Demons)? They're all here in RT's Summer Movie Preview, your guide to what's hot in theaters this season!
Click on the titles below to check out this summer's biggest movies

* May 1
* X-Men Origins: Wolverine
* Battle for Terra
* Ghosts of Girlfriends Past

* May 7
* Star Trek

* May 8

Stars former cast actress of George Lopez. The only way to get me to see that movie is because of her.

* June 24
* Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

* June 26
* My Sister's Keeper

* July 1
* Public Enemies
* Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs
One was enough, two was too much, three? Now I'm gonna puke.

* July 10
* Bruno
* I Love You Beth Cooper
I don't

* July 15
* Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Hopefully this will be better than the not-so-good Order of the Phoenix

* July 24

* G-Force
* The Orphan
* The Ugly Truth
This movie sucks.

* July 31
* Funny People
* They Came from Upstairs

* The Time Traveler's Wife
* A Perfect Getaway
* Post Grad

* August 21

* August 28
* Halloween 2
Seriously???
* Final Destination: Death Trip 3D
All three of them sucked, so this one will too.
* The Boat That Rocked
What is this? Some porno flick?

That sums it up, this years summer movie season is going to suck.

Of all of these I'm mostly looking forward to Inglourious Basterds (yes that IS the 'proper' spelling), because I like most things Tarantino. Though Terminator looks promising so far.

I....WAS looking forward to Star Trek, and I'll see it for Simon Pegg as Scotty if anything, but I have been very turned off by the trailers. It's starting to look like a big poser and cgi fest....ugh.

Who knows? Considering all of Pixar's movies have ranged from decent to stellar (let's forget about Cars for now), I'm pretty sure it'll be good. Early reviews look good, too.
* The Brothers Bloom - from the writer director of Brick: An awesome movie.
* Drag Me to Hell - Sam Raimi being Sam Raimi... looking forward to this one.

This day will be a good day.

Mr Sulu wasn't gay IN the show...
He's an actor.
Just like Arnold's Terminator wasn't also Mr Universe in the movie.

The Star Trek thing looks interesting, but I don't really like looking a dumb kid versions of characters that much. They always turn out so **cking lame... Really, I'd prefer a Kirk and crew that were the right age, not a bunch of early 20's people who haven't even grown into their own faces yet.

I'm not really interested into a lot of those movie, maybe:

- X-Men Origins: Wolverine
- Up
- Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince

Good thing there are other movies than that, this summer I'm probably going to see:

- Earth

- Adoration

- Three Monkeys

- La Nouvelle vie de Monsieur Horten

- Tulpan

- Élève libre

- Les Doigts croches

Yeah, probably one of the top reasons why I didn't care much for Superman Returns. =/

I see this star trek as trying to appeal to the younger crowd, but still getting monies from hardcore fans.

I'm not too excited about UP, it looks like the same old cookie cutter 'guy who means well but lets his personal flaws get him into a mess but in the end comes through for his goofy friends and saves the day'. Ill probably see it anyways for the animation.

I didn't care for it because they flattened Kumar with a pillar of kryptonite.

You might be surprised, early reviews for both these movies have been glowing.
