I just bought the first 4 volumes. For some reason I just can't get into it and have only read the first 2.
I wonder if it's an age thing or if it's just something most girls can't get into... (I know it's not a shonen/shojo thing because I LURVE other shonen jump stuff!)
I think the manga is brilliant but the anime moves too slow theres too much pointlessness not enough humor. Also the fights seem to move alot faster in the book, like the characters even though their still images seem to move alot more rapidly than they do in the acctual animation, which is rediculously awesome.
The only reason those comics are so action packed is BECAUSE of manga like Dragonball Z. Its like saying you love grim and gritty batman but you dont like frank millers stuff.
DBZ the manga is brilliant. the art is very minimalist in nature and very stark. Toriyama captures in a few lines what some people couldnt in a hundred.

Yeah, I'm guessing I just have to get up and read a few. Almost all shonen jump mangaka claim they're there today because Dragon Ball was their bible.

I don't see why it would. It's just a reprint of the same old series cropped for Widescreen TVs. Fansubbers aren't likely to take an interest because it's cropped and it's not like they're going to drop the current Funimation versions and remaster everything AGAIN. You might see the alternate OP and ED appear on youtube, but otherwise this isn't really anything to get excited about.
They're also shortening it down to 100 episodes so all the filler will be gone and they'll be more action. It'll make the fights actually cool instead of a bunch of standing around yelling and charging.

I started watching the series over from the start a while ago and I always take breaks from certain parts but I haven't managed to get passed Goku and Freiza's fight on Namek. He hasn't even turned super saiyan yet but I feel like I've been watching this fight for months.
Dragonball Z will always be awesome in my book though. I've only read some of the manga but it was still good stuff.

I feel the same way, but I'm a guy. I read the first Dragon Ball and hated it. But my 12 year old brother practically worships it and claims it's the best manga ever.

Did you guys see that new movie special thing with the amazing super clean animation that came out last year?
If they are remaking the series, it needs to look like that special!
After I watched that special I got nostalgic and watched a few old episodes. It's funny how when you remember certain episodes, your brain automatically cuts out all the filler. Frieza's 5 minutes took like 6 episodes! I was watching the episode where vegeta does his final flash for the first time. It took almost FIVE MINUTES for him to do it!!!
"What, you want to fight? Okay hold on a sec" *powers up for 20 minutes* "Okay, let's fight" *episode ends*
DBZ without the filler seems too good to be true...

We can only dream!
I remember the filler in the original Z series not bothering me much for some reason, but it might have only been because Toonami premiered a new episode every day. We were pretty much spoiled when it came to that, imagine having only one new episode every Saturday! The fight with Freiza would take weeks!

That's a stretch. Miller's style of art and writing isn't for everyone. He was innovative as Hell, but that doesn't automatically give him a free pass. Saying that a person can't like grim and gritty Batman without liking Miller simply because Miller pioneered the movement is like saying you can't enjoy rap unless you also like Run D.M.C.
Though I might just be jaded because I just read some comics from Miller's "Don't give a fuck" phase, where he was tired of being defined as "That Dark Knight Guy" and would sharpie the hell out of a page in a half hour and toss it over to DC, since he knew they didn't care either way.
I love how everybody on this poster, except for the most important character, is Asian.
Hell, the actor doesn't even have the super awesome hair.
I've seen the trailer, and I'm disgusted.
But I'm still going to try to see it...on Comcast on Demand or something.
But anyway, I only have like...the first Dragonball manga. I loved it, sadly, I never got anymore. I think it's an amazing manga (so far) and I remember when I was like, 10, I was really hardcore into Dragonball Z.
I remember my favorite was Gohan for a while...then it was some other dude with muscles and then another dude with muscles.
But still, great series, except for the anime, unless you can manage to have a lot of time on your hands, and find it on the internet...
You might wanna remember that Goku is a Saiyan, not an Asian. And, "Bulma Briefs"? She's definately German with that name. The only ones who have to be definatively Asian are Roshi, Yamcha, and Chi-Chi, although I think Chi-Chi is half-Asian since her dad the Ox King seems like he's from Norway.

o.O
The guy draws them all like, super-asian like.
I mean, Vegeta, he looks super asian too.
And um...Raditz, I think that's his name.
I swear, they need to stop making everybody look so asian.
It just screws me up.

I always loved Dragon Ball, specially DB Z, not the first anime that I saw, but the one that made say "all this anime thing is awesome"...
Im gonna wait until a few official news are released about these anime adaptations.
I know for sure that never...EVER gonna watch DB: Evolution and I was quite relieved when the Evangelion project went to nowhere...and Im sceptic about an Akira adaptation...
Most of these adaptations could work with enough budget, a talented cast and smart writers...two of these things are most of the time absent in Hollywood cinema...

i disagree...theyve been using that style for all he video game intros lately and i really dislike it. to be honest, I really didnt like any of the animation after cell saga, I felt that was the high point of the series animation-wise. after that they made everyones noses snub. the new style screams "lets highlight everything because we can!"
